The Mauryan empire was the first great empire of the Indian sub-continent
It was one of the greatest empires of the ancient world.,..in size at least it was on a par with the Persian, Roman and Han empires.

Then too u could have added the mughal empire.....Indian history has a number of pages on them.And dont forget the international symbol of India the TAJ MAHAL....was also built during the Mughal empire
