What prompted India-Pakistan ceasefire pact along Kashmir border?

IMO strong retaliation with bulls-eye capabilities of Pakistan prompted India for ceasefire. Indians just agreed to adjust the casualties of their soldiers which are significantly higher thru incident of 'suicide' and 'accidents'.
Indians are not trustworthy, they are buying time and may be updating the weapon list for future use in upcoming next round.

For nationalistic and jingoistic fervour your theory is bang on. Otherwise it has no value.

Some thing for you to think

true... Pakistan BAT were running havoc with the Indians...

When China is pounding India, what you Army doing?? Sucking it's thumb..... I thought Pak was serious about Kashmir and want to teach lesson coward Hindu nation about its aukat...

The only Rouge nation in this region is India... Not pakistan.

US pressure on both nation ...last we know pakistan decided not to talk anything unless kamshir is back to it's old status...but then we can't say No to US

Lets see what has changed in the last few years that lead to this ceasefire.

1) Since the last decade now, Pakistan has went out of its way to start a dialogue with India. This has been through over 3 successive govts. In every instance India declined.

2) In the last few years Pakistan upped the ante significantly along the LOC/IB. Indian losses increase more than x10 fold. Indian army suicides have also increase significantly.

3) China also upped the ante along the LAC/IB in the last year concurrently with Pakistan. India once again faced major losses with many of its soldiers jumping off cliffs to escape PLA brutallity.

4) Major internal challenges have increased for India. From sikhs, to the farmers protest, to daily beatings in kashmir.

5) India realized that it is facing down a 2 front war which will lead to the destruction of India.

So now tell me... who was the one who faced the heat and changed their policy position? It was India who since 2008 was unwilling to have any sort of dialogue with Pakistan. That has changed significantly ONLY DUE TO PRESSURE ON THE BORDER. We must not let go of this pressure because it only gives our enemy time to recoup and build up their strategy. We smell the fear and must strike them hard.

This guy.

Climb down by Modi government after years of chest-beating. Finally realizing that it cannot win a war with either China and Pakistan. I'm sure scores of Hindu bakts and Modi fanboys are angry about it, but at least it's nice to know that rationality prevailed.

I also think that international opinion also had an effect. No one likes a war mongrer.

Why would we be upset? I think its a good idea. India has shown a propensity for war when needed and for peace when needed. Article 370 is still revoked, yet the LOC is quiet and Pakistan is making little noise and has few supports in its stance. Thats a win no???

Lol. Whats the better option a hot border or a peaceful border with all objectives completed? Sounds to me like your Modi hatred has blinded your objectivity just like Pakistan hatred has blinded bakt objectivity.

They tried to overwhelm Pakistani forces, something that they believed they could do for years only to get a brutal response

Our next step is to provide support for the Kashmiri population as they push back against hindutva extremism in India

One should keep in mind that the actions affecting the relations between two countries are always dictated by political necessity.

Growing economic & military strength has now raised China to Super Power status. This has forced the US to form the “Quad” consisting of Japan, South Korea, Australia & India to counter Chinese influence in the Southeast Asian region. India being the biggest military power (apart from China) in the East, there must be a lot of pressure from the US on India to play a key role in ASEAN.

Additionally, rational thinkers in the Indian political, as well as military circles, know full well that India will not be able to fight both China & Pakistan at the same time; therefore cooling off the tensions on the Western border is both a military and political necessity.

On the other hand, since the Indian economy is nearly 10 times Pakistan’s economy and armed forces about 3 times as much, any concession to Pakistan would not be seen as a sign of weakness by the Indian masses. Whereas any similar gesture towards China would be picked up as being ‘Cowardly’ by the political opponents of the BJP. This is the real reason behind the sudden cooling-off gestures by India.

Keeping things hot at the LOC has never been in Pakistan’s interest. Musharraf & the army brass realized almost 2 decades back that in addition to the disparity between the Pakistani & Indian armed forces; the difference between their economies was so great that Pakistan could never hope to win Kashmir by force. Hence out of the bloc solutions such as the opening up of the border between Azad Kashmir & IOK were started. Therefore any offering of peace by India is always welcome.

The point has been made. Continuing to keep the LOC has reached the point of diminishing returns.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was international pressure to do so...behind the scenes, of course.
