What patriotism mean to you

see let me give you a example, overseas when we say my people we dont explicitly mean hindus we mean Indians and Indian cannot be defined by the word hindu

I never disagree with this because indian is nationality while hinduism is a religion. You can be indian but can follow any religion and this is also true for you being american as well as hindu/christian/muslims.

... being indian has a very broad defination having ties to culture which incorporates islamic values as well as hindu values with sikhism and christianity. you will find ample Indian christians in US who still refer india to be their own.... As i said it has more to do Indianism then hinduism....
I agree with you again but you did not answered my question that if you expect indians( no matter which religion they follow) to be loyal to india irrespective of their religion then american also demand same from peoples who have got American nationality. American also want them to be loyal with usa no matter if they follow hinduism or Christianity or their parent came from punjab or china but what i see is those indian who born in usa they are expected to be loyal with india more than country of their birth USA..why is that? why you dont ask them to be partiot for usa? why you expect them to love india when their country/nationality is American?

let me sort it out in a way for muslims in pakistan islam comes first and then pakistan for most of them where as in india its just opposite.
No its not just about Pakistan but peoples dont accept this fact. I am sure you like many others are going to marriage with hindu indian why not christisn indian or muslim Indians . If nationality come first for u indian before your religion then you should not mind getting marriage with ur fellow indian irrespective of their religion but you co indians cannot even have relationship together..you can share lands together but you cannot share life or relationship and that's where religion dominate nationality :)

.
Alternatively, you can see glimpses of patriotic indians (well, ethnicity anyway) displaying solidarity with the Indian populace back home. A recent example would be the unanimous support and demonstrations done by these individuals in support of Anna hazare. I know a lot of Indian origin individuals (not Indian citizens) who are extremely patriotic towards India. There are people who set apart portions from their income to help fund various non-profit NGO's or charitable organizations in India. For example, my cousin who was born, educated and brought up in the USA makes it a point to visit India every 5 months . He donates excessively to charities and poor families. In the US, he is a successful lawyer and aspires to become a senator one day. I think he'll make it....cause his oratory skills gives me the goosebumps :P

.
And as for your question why we dont encourage them to more loyal to their adopted country than India, why would we? Its highly counter productive. You can give a whole speech on the "right way to go about it" or ethics for that matter, but its really not going to change.

Actually i think i got you all wrong. we were in agreement since begning. actually i belive that one should be loyal to a place of which we have nationality....

See you are mixing 2 unrelated things. Marrige and nationality are 2 diffrent concepts. marrige is something personal... its nothing like that inter religon marriges are not there but people prefer marriges within same religon for the sake of to reduce the adjustment because of the family environment in which one has grown up. having a relation is fine but when it comes to marrige its like spending 24 o 7 with one another. so inter religon marrige are only success if you have quite a fine tuning so people prefrer same religon.

But then there is a word called India which binds all these forces together and a huge credit goes for this to the education system where when we enter nursery we are taught one thing all religons are equal, god is one names are diffrent and it keeps on repeating one way or other till you complete your college.

I am not mixing two things together but i just wanted to clear that indians also consider their religion before nationality when it come to make big decision. Many hindu girl will prefer to marry amercan/candian or british hindu than having marrige with muslim indian guy ..why they cannot when you guys according to you share common culture. they cannot because peoples are loyal to religion more than their nationality. Its fact accept it :)

and as far all religion equal.. i think its again unreal lesson we are being taught in movies or school. if all religion are equal then i would invite you to join islam instead of hinduism becuase if they are all equal and true then it dont matter which religion you practice : )

Sorry to jump in between the discussion.. but what you are saying is somewhat true as this is something very cultural as well as Private thing. It is not about religion but language/area/state based culture also been considered and this is one's choice. This has nothing to do with Nationalism Vs Religion. It happens when even you are in India and say my sister wants to marry a Tamil/Telugu/Marathi Brahmin Boy (I am from North Indian Brahmin family) even then that does not get accepted unless it is too fanatic. Same is case with Muslim choice as well.

All religions are said equal because they all have final destination as same. They all have same theories of Heaven and hell. They all teaches good things. And above to all these points, socially they r said as equal as we cant say any religion is superios based on practice or assumption and there is no such body which says this religion is upper to that religion ;).. And regarding being Muslim/Sikh/Christian etc.. I am all of them as I respect all and I go to all holy places but side by side I am agnostic too .. :D

Err....Patriotism is something that cannot be quantified, nor can be described.

It can only be felt.

. .
Its an emotion tht brings tears to my eyes n goose bumps............ And a sweet pain in my heart.......

Thts wat i feel........ i dnt know if u call it patriotism......... But i call it love for my motherland. And at tht time even a grain of sand at tht time feels sacred...........

Thts wat i felt while travelling through my country.

patriotism does not mean dying for your country as most of the people have the opinion....it means doing your but for your country and contributing to it in every possible way.....you pay taxes because of patriotism....you get yourself, your children or somebody else educated for patriotism.

Dude I know what you are trying to say but still its a choice. It is choice to choose someone sharing same nationality/country or sharing same belief or culture or ways of life. Take example of sania .She got married with shoib although he is not indian but she got married with him because she thought that shoib will have much more common culture with her than any non muslim indian because they share same religion :)
It happens when even you are in India and say my sister wants to marry a Tamil/Telugu/Marathi Brahmin Boy (I am from North Indian Brahmin family) even then that does not get accepted unless it is too fanatic. Same is case with Muslim choice as well
Why its not accepted ? what forbid your sister to have marriage with Tamil Brahman boy? Religion? i mean why this discrimination when you guys have same religion and same country? as far Muslims concern they are allowed to have marriage with any Muslim irrespective of her caste, status, rank or nationality

All religions are said equal because they all have final destination as same. They all have same theories of Heaven and hell.

I don't agree with this. We should respect all religion but all religions are not equal as their core teachings are different. They have different concept of GOD. Muslim believe in one God while Hindus believe in many Gods. We considered Jesus as prophet while Christian call him Son of GOD. Again my concept of hell , heaven and hereafter is totally different than any Hindu for example Hindus believe in incarnation while i don't etc

They all teaches good things
Dude I agree that as far as how you should deal/treat with other human being concern then all religion teach us same good morals. All religion teach their followers to have good behaviour and relationship with others. All religion teach them to respect the beliefs of each others . If you are true agnostic or atheists you should also have these morals/ethics. You don't need any religion to tell you that its not good to hurt others.

And above to all these points, socially they r said as equal as we cant say any religion is superios based on practice or assumption and there is no such body which says this religion is upper to that religion ;).. Its not about one religion superior and other religion inferior. All religion are different don't mean one become superior or other become inferior. We all follow the religion which we feel is true or which give us some kind of satisfaction/contentment. I am Muslim because i think Islam is true religion. A true Christian will say that he chose Christianity because Christianity is best religion If we assume all religion are true then Christian should not mind to practice Hinduism or vice versa but we all know every one stick with their religion because they feel that religion as true. You are agnostic that's why you don't care about any religion or their teaching :)

Can you make list of those things which make u feel proud about your motherland?

Can you make list of those things which you make u feel sad about your country?

Is there any room of improvemnet and constructive criticism in love for ur motherland ?
