On a more "apocalyptic" but possible view (don't kill me for it - just food for thought):
*maybe India would not be India at all - it could have balkanized much more quickly as a precipitation of the critical mass of people longing for independence.
* the asian giant will then be undisputed - China
* slowly the smaller balkanized states will be usurped by the giant
* start of a new Asian bloc with an undisputed leader
* start of a new cold war between asian, and EU+US bloc
* US and EU would probably align much further to counter the asian group
