Bangladesh is a country like others, in it's past it has been hostile to Pakistan and it has also been friendly towards Pakistan. However the hostile forces are now in full control and will be so for the foreseeable future, there can be no possible relationship with the Awami lot, not now, not ever.
As a people I have found them to be amongst the nicest and brotherly I have come across. During the course of my academic and professional career they have always offered me help, due to the sole basis I am Muslim and Pakistani. I can recall when I was training as an auditor for a large professional services firm, there was this one young British Bengali director who literally started his day with lines of cocaine and a stiff whisky. He had practically screwed all the young female interns and was the furthest thing from a practicing Muslim. However this chap would come out of his way to see me every day, and would offer his assistance in terms of timetabling, clients and promotions, again just out of brotherhood. It's because of him I enjoyed a great career and moved on with pride. I can give you many other examples of this from the UK Bengali community I have come across, many of whom are close friends of mine.
Now there is the factor that at least 90% of the community comes from Sylhet, who are known to place a high emphasis on their Islamic identity. But then I have also met 'Dhaka Bengalis' who very much came from Awami supporting roots, but they to were also nice, but could that have been due to the peer pressure from the Sylheti community? I don't know, I hope it was because their thinking was like the UK community. Anyway I have a lot of time for the Bengali community.
I thought I'd write my experiences and with that I shall close this thread. I feel people have given their opinions and some posts are now beginning to border on the negative side.
