What can Pakistan can purchase to improve air defense?

What can Pakistan can purchase to improve air defense?

My serious suggestions. Go 'Russian or Chinese' on this one -

  • Shut down 95% of the desi madaris
  • Invest money in new Russian/Chinese style science institutes
  • Revamp academy of sciences in Pakistan
  • Aim to produce 100,000 maths, physics, aeronautic etc graduates every year
  • Reduce emphasis on religion and replace/focus it with science in the youth
Down the road instead of buying Russian S-400s or Chinese AD systems Pakistan can make it's own and in fact begin exporting them. Problem sorted. Do as the leaders in this field do and not repeat what the losers do.
We mostly produce graduates of poor quality who are rearing to go out of the country. Even if we were to produce the numbers how would you accomodate them in the industry. My suggestion is to try and licence produce the weapons while training your manpower as you require. Weapons industry has limited utility due to number of units which the country needs and R&D budget of this country is nonexistent. If you had a R&D budget then current universities could be assigned tasks of dual usage tech.
Madressahs need revamping as does the whole education system. I will leave it at that for the moment.

Not only poor quality but on subjects like commerce, law, business etc which have limited use in developing country. Consider this. When you look at CPEC projects most of the workers are Paks. But then you will notice a young looking smartly dressed Chinese. He will be the engineer. We have millions of young. Why do not have engineers? To build fighters, missiles, tanks, ships, aircraft carriers, roads, bridges, dams, hospitals, sewer systems, cars, trucks, railways, trains etc which is what countries like Russia, China or USA can do we need -

  • civil engineers
  • mathematicians
  • chemists
  • metallurgists
  • airspace engineers
  • physicists
  • etc
When Pakistan buys from China, Russia, USA or France in fact it is buying their manpower knowledge. Why don't we have manpower knowledge? The reason is thirty years ago the generation of American, Russian, Chinese who make these things were studying such subjects at universities while ours were tossing around, doing useless subjects or being brainwashed in madaris. How many millions do we have in madaris? What good are they? Are they going to build motorways, design jet fighters or nuclear submarines? No, they are only good for chasing blasphemers down the street and lynching them.

And producing millions of scientists, airspace engineers, mathematicians, physicists will be good for Pakistan. Yes, they will not all get jobs in the local economy but neither do commerce graduates. However as the surplus scientists go abroad and start making name for themselves some will return and lay the foundation of a knowledge economy.

I read a book about how Soviet Union in 1930s aware that it was behind Germany and Western Europe under Stalin launched 5 year plans to bring it with par to west. And all the effort went on -

  • churning out science graduates in 100,000s. Mathematicians, physicists, chemists etc
  • building up steel industry
  • building up coal industry
  • building up rail network
  • etc
The result was by WW2 Russia had the scientific manpower to design, manufacture more tanks, more aircraft, more guns, more steel then Germany could leading to that country eing defeated despite incredible losses by Soviet Union. The reason was the generation of Russians numbering in millions who had graduated [not from madaris] but from scientific universities had matured and went on to to design/make the Kalashnikov rifles [used in Pakistan today], the T-34 ]lot of PA tanks are inspired by Russian T-series], the Mig aircraft [many of the PAF F-7s are Chinese copies] and today that talent produces the Sukhois, Migs, S-400s etc.

The politic system is also critical. Stalin system and current CCP system is very similar. One party, one vision. Of cos , during the 30s were more brutal and uncivilised under Stalin.

CCP will more concern about the all rounded development of a country as military alone cannot win against USA as Soviet demonstrated. The well-being and livelihood of any individual Chinese must also improved to increase GDP.

But once an order is given. It will be achieved at all cost. All party members and citizen will follow the order. Today, democracy and dictatorship are failure. Autocratic system is the key.

Hate to correct you but Mikhail Kalashnikov was not educated actually he was self taught.

so how about choose S400?
Hi S400 not possible at the moment until unless Indian start receiving the delivery system then there is a chance if Pakistan have the money they can get it OR
When it’s possible for China to make something similar to S400 Pakistan will definitely or willing to get some batteries for this system
People think that Russian are not ready to sell anything comparable to Indian demand is wrong
As long as you have the money you name it you get it
Beside we all should consider one thing Russians want to sell S400 as much as they can if money is there as they like to invest that money toward S-500
Which will be there prime AD missiles against the Star Wars kind of American missiles and other
Gadgets as Russian doesn’t have money and resources to compete with USA on this system
But a good and formidable AD can save them in better way
Thank you

i said this before but again, Pakistan should take a good look at Iranian made Air defense systems too, see if some thing catch there eye.

. . .
Options are :
SAMPT Aster 30 from italy . Range 120 +
HQ9 from China . Range 180 - 200 km
S300 PMU2 frim russia . Range 300 km

.
HQ 22 is just a 2nd generation version of HQ-12 which is a Chinese reverse engineered S-75. These missiles are extremely outdated and their long range can be misleading.

.
I think Pakistan will have to repay a major portion of the IMF loan they are going to be taking before thinking of buying any major defense equipment. Otherwise IMF will be interfering a lot in future defense procurement. Pakistan has significant defense bills to pay for the frigates, submarines and helicopters ordered.

SAMs are expensive to own and operate, but a few batteries of medium and long range SAMs covering vital points would improve Pakistan's air defense tremendously, and force any enemy 4th gen aircraft to remain at an arm's length.

If not that, then probably think about buying off the shelf fighters from other nations, until the JF17 block 3 production ramps up.

Pakistan's biggest problem is it's old and obsolete fleet of fighters, replacing them is a priority.
