What about jf-17 for bangladesh airforce?

Dear brother,

Bangladesh is a small country. If u put a squadron at FOB Cox's bazar, Two at Dhaka and half at Bogra, that covers all the possible air routes. That's like 3.5 squadrons. One attack squadron is required at Chittagong as well. Total is like 56 multirole aircraft and 16 attack aircraft.

You do not need lot many aircraft to be in dominant position. You need some very good aircraft with twice the number of extremely well trained combat ready pilots for those aircraft. 48 to 72 multirole fighter aircraft is good enough for BAF.

However, BAF plans to acquire a total of 9 squadron of planes including a sq. of training/fighter planes in its arsenal. That makes about 144 planes in total.

.
32-48 in the course of time.

32 was mentioned in Jane's. But govt. declared 1 regiment which means 3 squadrons at least. general BAF squadrons are made with 16 aircraft, so total number in the course of time goes to 48. In addition to this BAF needs another squadron to replace Attack squadron. That makes the total 64 aircraft.

They are also upgrading existing 8 mig to SMT standard. BAF also have 1 F-7 MB(10 remain operational of 16 delivered in 1988) & 1 F-7BG squadron (16 aircraft) purchased in 2006 and another squadron of F-7BGI ordered. With these delivered BAF shall withdraw A-5C from service.

So, 2 sqad of F-7BG/BGI shall remain along with 8 mig-29SMT + 32 to 64 F-16/Mig-29CMT/Su-30/Jas-39.

The PM said 1 regiment means 3 to 5 squadrons max. At the present if you include all the aircraft we have that figure is 144.

At most BAF will do:

Fighter Aircraft: Multirole: 48 new + 8 Mig-29SMT

Fighter Aircraft: Attack : 16 new + 32 F-7BG/BGI

Well brother,

you have 44 years in your hands to upgrade ur JF-17 to beat Euro fighter and Rafale. F-16 was introduced in 1974 and it evolved into F-16 Block 50/52 in 44 years with US kind of funding.

Good luck

BAF will then operate 48 to 72 Su-30MKB.
And BAF Su-30MKB will also have options by then for farther upgrade to beat F-22/PAKFA/J-20 .... if I may say like you are saying!!!

Either you are not getting my point or dont want to get my point... The question was you cant make ant and elephent... and the answer was yes we can..... With advancing technology the fighter can be improved.... And will be improved....

.
So, you agree that JF-17/FC-1 is way too inferior to J-10, J-11, Su-27!! Good, coz, J-10B is compared with block 40/42 F-16. That means JF-17 is nothing compared to F-16 Block 50/52, 60/62, Mig-29CMT, Su-30 and Gripen. And some of you Pakistani brothers comparing it with Euro fighter. WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Bangladesh Air Force is in the right track not falling for FC-1 rather go for some low cost fill the gap fighter now and F-16/Mig-29CMT/Su-30/Gripen in 10 years from now.

If its makes you happy JF 17 is way way way way way way too inferior to block 15 of f16.....

I would really love to see where J10 is compared with Block 40.... People here are talking about AESA for J10B and you still stuck at that block 40 thing.....

BAF If they can afford they should go for F35....... Hope i made you happy now....

F35 would be overkill, BD has a very good lineup of ac's which they are evaluating in SU's, f16 and Grippen.

jf-17 isnt possible simply due to fact that pakistan is involved..
i dont understand why BAf needs so many aircrafts anyway..it cant compete/will not compete india for protection of its intersts for ideological reasons...
and it doesnt has nay possible threat from somoene else as only neighbor it has is india three sides of it and the sea..(a small boarder with burma too though)

anyway a squardons of gripen 12-18 will be much more than enough for such a small country..

Well my friend,

Your total land area is almost 800,000 sqkm and you have or planning to maintain around 800 fighter aircraft (according to wiki). Compared to that for a country with total land area of almost 150,000 sqkm needs around 160 fighter aircraft!! so what is your point?

Well, with burma we may have small land border but also has a very big sea border. And burma has always been trying to invade bangladeshi border. They have recently upgraded their fleet with additional 20 mig-29S and 12 JH-7A. That is our threat and that is why we need to upgrade ourselves to better handle the potential future invasion.

And first look at ur own air force and then make comments about quantity.

a squardon or two is good enough to keep burma quiet..pakistan doesnt has 800 aircrafts it has somewhere around 400-500 but we have to keep india quiet to protect our interst in kashmir and water resources

.
there isnt any low cost fighter available in market other than mig29,jf-17,grippen and f-16s..
f-16s are very expensive unless they are refurbished (nearly 80 mllion)
BAF experience wit mig29 isnt good,j-10 yet to mature but costs around 50 million, grippen is around 40 million..

and jf-17 is out of question as its a pakistani product(atleast labelled as)

so in end it would either be j-10,grippen or mig29..
may be a chance for refurbished f-16 if americans are lenient

The number of aircrafts you need is directly proportional to the area you need to cover, not how many aircrafts your opponent has.

Thunder has never been offered to BA nor i will it will becuase of BA close realtions with India... second vipers is also out of the question i don't think the US release a sale to BA. What other aircrafts are there on the drawing board that BA can get?
