  According to sources, two crude bombs went off before the evening prayers around 5:30pm. The blast occurred near the shoes rack of the worshipers outside the main temple.
  
  While no one was injured in the blast, window panes of the temple broke.
  
  The police has rushed to the spot and have started investigating the matter.
  
  Belur Math is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda. It is located on the west bank of HooghlyRiver, Belur under the Bally police station area. This temple is the heart of the Ramakrishna Movement. The temple is notable for its architecture.

Belur, April 3: Two small explosions about 15 minutes before the evening prayers were to start at Belur Math this evening broke window panes in the hall opposite the main temple where devotees leave their shoes.

No one was injured.

Monks in the Math said they heard two thuds at 5.45pm when preparations were on for the prayers that almost 250 people attend every day. On Good Friday, Math sources said there were over 300 people inside.

Some of them rushed out but police personnel from the outpost at the entrance to the math cordoned off the area immediately. The prayers went on as usual.

Senior officers, including Howrah commissioner Ajay Ranade, and a bomb squad arrived and scanned the area. A forensic team collected samples to test what exactly could have caused the explosions.

A senior monk said they might well have been crackers set aflame by a prankster.

The police too appear to think that way. "Preliminary investigations indicated the possibility of fire crackers," said Nishat Pervez, deputy commissioner (headquarters), Howrah.

KOLKATA — Tension prevailed at the Belur Ramrkishnan Mission at Belur Math following a minor bomb explosion of a crude bomb in the evening yesterday.

The police said station fire fight sources got into work after the explosion but there was no casualty.

Investigation suggested it was a minor cracker blast but further investigation is on, police said.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the monks and Howrah police commissioner Ajey Ranade rushed to the spot, Times of India reported. The area was cordoned off and police combed the area for explosives, the report stated.

A major pilgrimage site in the state, Belur Math is where Swami Vivekananda spent his last days.

"It appears to be a powerful firecracker but we are investigating all angles," TOI quoted Howrah DC-HQ Nishat Parvej as saying. (With inputs from PTI)
