The latest turn in what has thus-far been a rather schizophrenic reaction...

US multiplying military, civilian aid to Pakistan: US

US multiplying military, civilian aid to Pakistan: US
Updated at: 0245 PST, Tuesday, May 11, 2010

WASHINGTON: The United States said Monday it was satisfied with Pakistan's cooperation in the probe of a bomb attempt in New York's Times Square, seeking to clarify strong words from US leaders.

"We're very satisfied by the cooperation we're getting on this particular investigation thus far," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said.

He said the government of Pakistan had already acted aggressively against the Taliban, and said the United States would "evaluate whether additional steps" were necessary.

US special representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke said US is multiplying Pakistan’s civilian and military aid, being deeply concerned over attempt of terror attack on US.

This he said to a press conference here on Monday.

Some Pakistani media had wondered if the United States was threatening action after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke Sunday of "consequences" in the case of Pakistani-American bomb suspect Faisal Shahzad.

"We've made it very clear that if -- heaven-forbid -- an attack like this that we can trace back to Pakistan were to have been successful, there would be very severe consequences," Clinton said on CBS's "60 Minutes."

Richard Holbrooke, the US special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan, said that the remarks were misconstrued and noted that Clinton had also welcomed Pakistan's growing cooperation against extremism.

"We think our relations with Pakistan have improved greatly in the last year," Holbrooke told reporters.

Clinton "herself praised the Pakistan government for what it has done. And so I urge you to not to react to a misrepresentation of what she said," he said.

The US Congress last year approved a major aid package that devotes 7.5 billion dollars over five years to build Pakistan's schools, infrastructure and democratic institutions to try to weaken support for extremists.

The US military has also stepped up a campaign of targeting militants in attacks by unmanned drones in lawless tribal areas.

Shahzad, the 30-year-old naturalized American son of a Pakistani air force officer, was pulled off a plane to Dubai and arrested last week for allegedly leaving a sport utility vehicle rigged to explode in Times Square.

US Attorney General Eric Holder on Sunday accused the Pakistani Taliban of being behind the May 1 attempted attack, foiled when a street vendor spotted smoke coming from the vehicle.

"We've now developed evidence that shows that the Pakistani Taliban was behind the attack," Holder said Sunday on media."

"We know that they helped facilitate it. We know that they probably helped finance it, and that he was working at their direction."

As i said before.....They are playing Hot cup, cold cup...........with us

I would say again, we hold USA by the balls. USA needs us a lot more than we need them and they cannot afford to offend Pakistan in any condition what so ever. Paksitan, as a country, as a Nation or any National institute is N O T involved in the US bombing and no darn person can point a false finger upon Pakistan for that. If there was an Individual involved in terrorism inside USA, they have got him already and if he had links with the people in Pakistan, then those are the people we are against war A L R E A D Y. So whats the point in pinching Pakistan anyway? If they want those Pakistani Taliban to be out and dead, they got to help and cooperate Pakistan and not make us stand against America instead.

Ms. Clinton is an elderly lady and has probably lost a part of her intellect because of age so we should remember this aspect and tolerate as she might be helpless in giving out statements like that.. But American got to see if this lady is serving their country to the levels she should. Offending Pakistan is not going to benefit even this lady, let America as a country alone.

Followed by Drone attacks...

USA talked of cooperation from Pakistan and it is a cooperation that Pakistan is tolerating American drone attacks along with providing them support through its resources. Second, drones didn't start yesterday that you trying to gain some satisfaction from.

Okay someone explain to me other possible 'interpretations' of 'severe consequences'

and if they wanna do a roll back it will have to come from Clinton herself, and what are the chances of that ? Dr. Phill will grow hair before that happens

What point was your post intended to make?

Its not chest thumping anyway, it is realization of the fact on part of USA which India remains fail and miserably so. How hard it is to understand for an Indian mind that Pakistan is already in WAR with the same terrorists who are also hurting India. May be you have only learned to see things being enemy of Pakistan and failed to learn how to appreciate something good which Pakistan did for the betterment of the world who India is also part of.

Listen here, the Pakistani military/government is secretly allowing the drone attacks while publicly denouncing it. They realize these people are bad for the country and they want them dead.

If you had a little bit of intelligence you would have figured it out by now.

I think a lot of the confusion comes from Clinton. Her remarks appear to me to be her own and not Obamas. Now the administration is trying to calm things down.
