The good news for India-China people-to-people relations is that India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) plans to introduce Chinese language courses in the 11,000 schools affiliated to it from Class VI onwards beginning in 2011. The bad news is that finding teachers is a problem. The better news, according to a report in the English daily Indian Express is that the Chinese gov-ernment has offered to help with course material, and, if needed, also send language teachers.

The best news on this front though, is that Premier Wen Jiabao's three-day visit, which began today, may quicken whatever the authorities in India and China decide to do about it. Indian media reports said that India's Ministry of External Affairs has already moved on the matter.

As before, Chinese people usually want to immigrate to countries with a high standard of living like Canada and Singapore. Or to other Chinese cities like Hong Kong.

I hear there is a community of Chinese in Kolkata though, maybe that can be tapped into.

an attack on india would be an "indian doom scenario" not a china doom one. it'll be more like "chinese government gains immense popularity boost, liberates south tibet, forces india to sign humiliating treaty and pay tribute in crude oil and gold" scenario.

lol. Why do people post stuff like this? seriously. Both sides should take a look at the map, and think if any major attack that can be sustained is even possible. The answer is a simple no.

Oh sure...both sides can make a week or a month long incursion into the other's territory, and withdraw...but that's about it...Thinking of holding the ground taken so far from any viable means of mass resupply is laughable at best....and more likely suicidal.

Premier Wen addresses Indian Council of World Affairs - People's Daily Online December 16, 2010

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao delivered a speech at the Indian Council of World Affairs on Thursday, saying the two countries agree that there is enough space in the world for the development of both China and India and enough areas for the two countries to cooperate.

He said that "China takes seriously India's concern about the trans-border rivers, and we are ready to further improve the joint working mechanism."

"We will do whatever we can and do it even better," Wen said.

"I would like to assure our Indian friends that the upstream development activities by China will be based on scientific planning and study and will take into consideration the interests of both upstream and downstream," he added.

The China-India boundary question is a "historical legacy" and its resolution requires patience, Wen said.

"It will not be easy to completely resolve this question. It requires patience and will take a fairly long period of time," Wen said.

"Only with sincerity, mutual trust and perseverance can we eventually find a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution," he added.

He says China and India should expand, deepen converging interests.
