The misconception is that the Turkish Navy is extremely modern. The Turkish Navy has very capable ships when it comes to frigates and the 4 Ada class corvettes. However the Turkish Navy's strength is again in numbers.

The Vast majority of the Fast Attack Craft are old and without AA missile systems. They only have AA guns (not CIWS).

The Burak class corvettes don't have any AA missile systems either.

Apart from that,10 of their 19 Fast Attack Craft only carry 2 missiles. That's hit and go.

On the other hand,the Egyptian Navy has 40 Fast Attack Craft and 8 Submarine Chasers.

For every one of the glorified losses enshrined by the colonial powers there are an equal or greater number of wins by the turks. Remember history is written by the victor. Ottoman navy controlled the Mediterranean with no equal, till the time the Europeans became bigger naval powers. The critique of the Turks can be they should have gone out of the Medit which they did not. That allowed the Europeans to find lands and build wealth centers through their colonial experiments. Turks were comfortable in what they had. Classic case of when on the top you become about risk management than risk taking. All empires ebb like that.

Only 4 of your Gabya class ships are fitted with VLS. Barbaros class could have VLS but so far they carry 8 Sea Sparrows. I don't know if all of the ships have been modernized already.

The Egyptian navy already has all these ships. They are in service. And if you cannot see that they are modern and nothing like "outdated",
then you have a serious problem,you live in your own reality.

Of course after 1700,the Ottomans clearly lost that significant strength as their ships would often lose in skirmishes and battles against the Russians and western Europeans.

-- sent Navy to S.Arabia , Oman , Yemen , İndia , Indonesia to protect Muslims
( Ottoman Fleet beat 5 times outnumbered Portuguese Navy )

My friend I dont disagree that Turks were primarily a land power. But to argue that they were not a naval power in the Medit is rich. They were, just like the Athenians were a strong naval power in comparison to the Spartans. Till they werent one day. But doesn't Athenians having a strong navy mean the Greece was once a naval power. And we wold give you that, even though ancient Greece was nowhere like modern Greece. Turks and Greeks themselves have a heavily mingled gene-pool. Where do you think Troy was in fables of Homer?

So I think we are being too harsh to say Turkey was not a naval power. They could not have been a Medit power if they did not have a strong navy.
