Water level is decreasing at alarming rate throughout world. Dam and reservoir are important but we should consider concerns of all parties.

However, in case of shortages what will happen to downstream people i.e. Sindh and Balochistan. Upstream people (Kashmir, Punjab and KPK) can become selfish and cut the water.

Solution:
1. Sindh and Baluchistan are blessed with ocean. We should build desalination plants at Karachi and Gwadar coast and pumping stations to pump the water upstream upto Sukkur bridge and Kuzdar.

2. Hydrogen cloud

So dam and other solution should go hand in hand. We can bring back greenary in Sindh and Baluchistan too.

Best wishes for Pakistan. Allah swt knows best.

Not a feasible solution ... Cost will increase benefits ... It can be used for city consumption but for agriculture it is not feasible at all ...

It will be much cheaper than building dams. Instead of three dams we go with 2 dams.

Did you run the facility for this or are you an expert in the area?

Yes desalination plant are cheaper to install but they will require continuous energy to run them on the other hand dams will continuously generate energy which will return it cost in a few years time and then they will provide surplus cash flow ...

Furthermore, how do you propose to move water upwards from sea level in karachi and gawadar to Sukkur ? The infrastructure require will be equivallent to that of Dam construction and running cost of moving it upwards will be enormous

Per capita water availability has decreased from 5260 m3 in 1951 to 1050 m3 by the year 2010.
If you look at it water available is same but the population increased 5 times from 1951.i think population control will solve the problem or arrest the problem

750 million to 1.6 billion dollars produces 1000MLD portable water.
do we have that much money lying around? We need to convince people that this would be better than buying water from water tankers

Sindh should force ban on rice cultivation in northen Sindh and release more water for lower Sindh. There is a reason rice was never cultivated in older times. Lining canals and drip irrigation will save half of water if not more. Similarly punjab can irrigate more land if less water was used. Like in Thal.

Desalination plants are very very expensive even for drinking water. Forget about agriculture.

cost of building 1 dam as per 2008 assessment is 8 billion dollars. This only benefits 2 provinces. And constructing 1 desalination plant is 1.2 billion.

There’s water shortage in downstream coastal areas.

We shouldn’t forget 2 rivers were been sold to India by previous leaders. We should ask those leaders to cover the cost and compensate Pakistan for losses.

Punjab is not at the upstream. Do you understand the conveco of upstream or down stream.?

New technology is needed. Need to test making water from air tech. Also rain water harvesting is a great way to save water.

Desalination might be an expensive option but these is a new research is being done in Unversity of Texas that might reduce 30% to 40% operation cost. This technology might be available in next 5 years.

If Desalination plant is the only option, solar pump can be used to pump water to upstream. But where are going to pump the water to? Water storage facility include Artificial lakes need to be created.

solar mirrors electricity generation plant is also another option to supply continues electricity to the desalination plant and water pumps.

For Punjab, India is at the upstream. And for azad Kashmir and KPK, China is at upstream.

Further, industrial and nuclear plant waste dump into Indus River, which make drinking water acidic for people of south Punjab and Sind. Actually we are slow poisoning our own people. We also need strick dumping regulation.
