No we'll never get a deal with China to fill Indian rivers. There's no guarantee the water will ever reach us. In fact, China needs to completely halt the water flow until India signs a deal promising BD 50% share of the released water. ;)

Beg them for that. ;)

You lungiman converts have very wrong expectations.

I don't care what anyone "said". We have to deal firmly and fairly with these issues.

BD has much more water availability per capita than India. They are flooded each year with too much water.

We need to first ensure the availability of enough water to our people before flooding you even more.

India has much more water availability per capita than the Middle East. Start sending some water over there. Amazing IQ btw.

You are making the stupid noise here about water stealing in the first place.

Frankly, it is because you are kept busy with these stupidities to divert attention from the mess your country is.

Won't have to, it's gonna happen regardless. We are prepared to suffer if it ensures that you suffer too. ;)

We won't.

We have enough water through tributaries within India for our needs.

Only you will be left high and dry. ;)

Bangladesh right on common international river water is NOT based on per capital water avilability. It is fundamentalist indian concoction and part of indian water terrorism, to say the least.

BD getting 'due' share of Teesta water : Rizvi

Bangladesh is receiving its 'due' share of Teesta river water though the government is yet to sign a treaty with India over water-sharing, Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Gawher Rizvi has claimed, reports bdnews24.com.

His statement comes a year after India deferred the signing of a treaty on Teesta river water sharing following objections from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"We did not get less water though the treaty was not signed. We are getting our due share," Rizvi said at a seminar Friday.

He, however, declined to comment on when the treaty could be signed.

Referring to India's commitment to ink the treaty, the adviser said, "India's central government is trying its best to have the West Bengal government agreed on the treaty."

He felt the geographical positioning of Bangladesh is an opportunity to turn the country into a business hub in the South and South-East Asia through development of communications system.

The seminar was organised by 'Biswa Shanti O Manobadhikar Andolon Bangladesh' at the National Press Club.
Whenever someone speaks the truth either in Pak or BD he becomes a traitor!!Strange isn't it??

Gawhar Rizvi was a traitor long before he spoken about Teesta, it just brought out his traitor character even more. Poor indians desperate to defend their stooges.

The Jamaatis on this forum are as clueless as hens in a pigsty! Are these guys even aware of the 1983 understanding on an ad hoc sharing of the Teesta during lean periods?

According to that agreement, 36 percent of the flow is allocated for Bangladesh and 39 percent for India, leaving a quarter to be decided upon later.

It can therefore be seen that both India and BD are getting an almost eaual share of water at present. The issue is with the remainder 25 percent. Probably this will be distributed in the same percentage as above.

So what's the big deal? Why are the Jamaatis here bouncing around cursing all and sundry? It's high time they grow up and stop shooting from the hip at the drop of a hat. Probably it's the lack of education. They need to do a little research before spewing baloney out here.

Steep decline in Teesta water flow

Staff Correspondent The volume of water in Teesta irrigation canal has dropped down to 450 cusec while that of the Teesta River below 1,000 cusec as India, the upstream country, is apart from withdrawing, diverting the water.

Water board officials said the volume of water in Teesta drops steeply in December-March as India holds almost all the wate during that period.

According to the officials of Bangladesh Water Development Board, Bangladesh needs 3,500 cusec of water during the lean period in February-March.

Teesta flows in thin

Barrage, dams in India shrink the river most in February

The flow of water on the Teesta has weakened significantly in last 24 years for Gajoldoba barrage and some dams built by India in the river's upper basin.

In February and March, it comes down to less than 1,000 cubic feet per second, from 5,000 cubic feet per second in December and January.

At times, it shrinks even further, say sources at the Water Development Board's hydrology department.

For instance, they add, the amount of water dropped to 370 cusec (cubic foot per second) in February 2007.

The water flow in the month used to be 4,000 cusec at the minimum before India built Gajoldoba barrage, some 70 kilometres upstream from Dalia point in Nilphamari in 1985.

This steep drop in the volume of water is because of India holding almost all water during the lean period.

This trend, continuing over the years, means sufferings to thousands of people living downstream and affecting the ecology in the northern districts.

“When the flow plummets to 400 or 370 cubic feet a second, it means little water passes through Gajoldoba barrage. This 400 cusec water is regenerated between Gajoldoba and Teesta barrage in Bangladesh,” said Dr Ainun Nishat, noted hydrologist.

I mistakenly missed one of the toppers Gawher from the list of heads to be assassinated someday ago in a post and later regretted. This kuttar bacchcha has to be shot on indo-Bangla border and kept hanged on barbed wire fence for indefinite time until vultures finish it as a delicious meal.

It's his his whose whose game, no third country will do it for us how friendly they are to us doesn't matter. Why would China do that for us? We have to smartly deal our matter. And also what China is doing with india over river issue, it's their bilateral issue, so is ours with india and we have to resolve that first being dependent on our capability. If we prove we are capable, association with third country might come then.

If you are saying something about treating india by its surrounding friends together, yes China, Pakistan and Bangladesh can start an acupuncture from all corners :cheesy: .
