Walton, one of the leading electronics manufacturers in Bangladesh, has set up a research and innovation centre in South Korea.
The company also signed an agreement with a design house in South Korea to jointly work on bringing groundbreaking changes in the quality and design of electronics and technology products.

The deal was signed in presence of Golam Murshed, managing director and chief executive officer of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, in Seoul on June 2, Walton said in a press release today.
Addressing the event, Murshed said South Korea is undoubtedly a leading global hub of electronics and technology products.

"So, setting up a research centre and working jointly with a reputed design house is a giant step for the electronics sector in Bangladesh."
Thanks to the combination of Walton's capabilities with South Korean expertise, consumers will get international standard products with innovative designs, he added.
The initiative will bring a radical change in product quality and design, the company said.

Walton recently acquired the rights of three reputed European electronics brands and their production plant, trademark, patent, design and software licence in 57 countries.
Walton's Head of Supply Chain Mohasin Sarder, Head of Sourcing Aminul Islam and Head of Walton Refrigerator's R&I Centre Tofail Ahmed were also present at the event.

Fantastic!

It’s probably a buying shop for new technology rather than a lab.

But it’s a good start.

If Walton can grab a big slice of the African and Indian market - it will be a huge exporter.

On a side note (and knowing some insiders at Walton) - looks like they are focusing on refrigerator market first.

Look at innovation in household refrigeration compressors manufacturing, buying EU refrigerator brands. The Mold company will probably design and produce molds for refrigerator parts use in Bangladesh factory.

EU, India and Africa market will all benefit from modern and reasonably priced home refrigeration appliances.

If Walton can dominate the home appliance market - it will by itself transform BD’s image.

Would be a total game changer if BD can create just one large multinational company with revenue around 50 billion $ by the end of this of this decade.



This is the company that has the best chance of changing the perception of BD from being a low-tech poverty-stricken garment producer to a high-tech industrial powerhouse like S. Korea and Taiwan.

50 billion US dollars for Walton by 2030 will be very hard to achieve as most of it will have to be from exports as the BD home market may only be able to take 10 billion US dollars at most and that is if Walton enhances it's domination of it to even higher levels than it does now. It would require for it's technology and R&D to be able to to match the likes of Samsung and LG which is simply not possible from where it is now and the money it will be able to throw into R&D this decade.

I would be happy if Walton gets 10 billion US dollars of revenue by 2030 with 3-5 billion of that from exports.

2040 is a more realistic date for 50 billion US dollars and if it gets there then it would truly be a world-class firm no less than Samsung, LG and Sony.

For context, Samsung is valued at around 74 Billion, LG at around 14 billion. Walton reaching 5-10 billion by the end of the decade in itself would be a feat worth celebrating, however, I really don't see it exceeding 3 billion considering how it doesn't currently have much in the means of assets/equity.

Opening a design house is serious move.

They are moving on to the next stage.

I remember Hyundai hiring Audi's designer guy Peter Schreyer before they launched their serious new design cars.



This means you are ready to commit to a specific unique "brand-image", and reach the next level up as far as pricing and marketing and "compete with the big boys" as far as market and price differentiation.

Hiring Peter Schreyer changed Hyundai completely and transformed the company from a purveyor of simple ho-hum budget econo-cars to serious value-priced vehicles with superior customer-focused design, which made it compete with the likes of Audi and Mercedes in the looks dept., while being priced like (or lower than) Toyotas.

It was such a serious bang-for-the-buck value that US customers sat up and took notice in the whole lineup starting in the early 2010s. KIA was transformed later styling-wise too, as it was perceived as "white-trash" vehicles in the days before 2010...

The Hyundai Luxury division (Genesis) came later and Peter Schreyer was also a big part of that. The man is a genius.

Very good move, the leaders in Walton seem to have good vision. Hope it continues.
