ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China on Friday inked a series of agreements and Memoranda of Understandings on expanding cooperation in economy, energy, security and technology.
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao witnessed the signing of documents held at Prime Minister House as the respective ministers of Pakistan and China inked them.
The agreements and MoUs were signed to expand cooperation in the utilization, management, training, educational programmes and modernization of railways and to establish a long-term cooperative relationship on the basis of equality and mutual benefits.
The first Memorandum of Understanding on Reciprocal Establishment of Cultural Centers was signed by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chinese Minister of Culture Cai Wu.
The second MoU on Strengthening Technical Cooperation and Pak-China Road Transport Activities between Ministry of Transport of China and Ministry of Communications of Pakistan was signed by Minister of Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour and Chinese Minister of Transport Li Shenglin.
The agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of Pakistan and Government of China, for grant of RMB 200 million for flood reconstruction projects was signed by Minister of Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and Chinese Minister and China International Trade Representative Gao Hucheng.
The agreement on launching of Urdu programmes on China Radio International in Pakistan between China Radio International (CRI) and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) was signed for broadcast on FM 93 (Islamabad, Lahore, Multan and Kohat) and the programmes shall be in Urdu and English. The agreement was inked by Director General PBC Ghulam Murtaza Solangi and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian.
The MoU on cooperation between Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and Securities Regulatory Commission of China (SRCC) was inked by Commissioner SECP Tahir Mahmood and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian.
The MoU on establishment of Energy Working Group between National Energy Administration of China and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources of Pakistan was signed by Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources Imtiaz Kazi and Vice Minister and Deputy Director Head of National Energy Administration Qian Zhimin.
A Government Concessional Loan Agreement on the Safe City Islamabad Project was also signed between Pakistan and EXIM bank of China and it was inked by Secretary EAD Sibtain Fazal Haleem and Vice President, China Exports and Import Bank Li Jun.
An agreement for National Electronics Complex of Pakistan was signed by Chairman NESCOM Irfan Burney and President CETC Yan Lijin.
An agreement to provide license to establish Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) by the State Bank of Pakistan was signed by Governor SBP Shahid Hafeez Kardar and President ICBC Yang Kaisheng.

400-member FPCCI delegation to meet Chinese investors
LAHORE: A high level 400-member delegation of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) including leading business tycoons will hold a series of meetings with Chinese investors accompanying the Chinese premier on a 3-day state visit to Pakistan. President FPCCI Sultan Ahmad Chawla Thursday said prominent Pakistani magnate would ink MoUs with their Chinese counterpart in different sectors. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao started an official visit to Pakistan Friday noon, in a bid to further push forward bilateral pragmatic cooperation and lift economic and trade cooperation to a new high.
"The purpose of my visit this time is to solidify friendship, deepen cooperation, support Pakistan's efforts of post-disaster reconstruction, and ring in, together with Pakistan, the 60th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations in 2011," Wen said in a written statement released at the airport.
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and other senior officials welcomed Premier Wen at the airport.
As an important country in the region, Pakistan has made positive contributions to peace, stability and development of the region and the world, said Wen.
"China and Pakistan are all-weather cooperation partners. Under the complex and fluid international and regional circumstances, it is a firm policy of the Chinese government to further cement and deepen the strategic partnership of cooperation with Pakistan," said Wen.
Wen is expected to hold talks with Gilani and other Pakistani leaders on bilateral cooperation as well as issues of shared interest.
Premier Wen will also attend a China-Pakistan business summit and meet Pakistanis who have contributed to the friendship between the two countries.
China's participation of Pakistan post-flood reconstruction is one of the main issues of Wen's visit, said Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue.
"We will continue to do what we can to support the Pakistani people," Hu told a press briefing on Monday concerning Wen's visit.
China pledged a total of 250 million U.S. dollars to Pakistan after the floods hit Pakistan in July and August.
Pakistan is the second leg of Wen's two-nation South Asia trip. He started his official visit to India on Wednesday.

may be we have gone little better than those 25 billiion dolars to 50 billion dollars in agriculture they should have pumped little more becoz it is a pakistans backbone on which country to be runed and also pumped in security not only provide scanners for islamabad but also big cities of pakistan likes of karachi,lahore,faislabad etc and also allocated few millions on education which we darely want to make right too

The two leaders who met here at the Prime Minister House, besides discussing the way and means on how to deepen the strategic bilateral relationship between Pakistan and China also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Premier Wen is in Pakistan on a three-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
The two sides also discussed increased exchanges in education and culture and expressed desire to send more Pakistani students to China to study subjects like Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Advanced Chemistry and Physics.

ISLAMABAD - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani held talks Friday to deepen their countries' bilateral strategic cooperative partnership and cooperation in various fields.
At the beginning of their talks, Wen extended appreciation for the hospitality of the Pakistani people for his visit. He said the two nations enjoy a profound friendship that has laid a solid foundation for bilateral relations.
"I hope to tell the world through my visit that China and Pakistan have been good friends, and we will continue to do so in the future," Wen said.
Wen arrived in Islamabad earlier on Friday to start an official visit to Pakistan.
The premier said that to enhance bilateral friendly ties not only meets the fundamental interests of both countries but also contributes to peace and stability in Asia and the world.
Gilani told Wen that China is the "best" and "most-trusted" friend of Pakistan, and he was proud of the growth of their bilateral all-weather friendship.
"Your visit is another landmark in the long and glorious history of our relations," he said.
Extending congratulations on China's success in holding the Shanghai Expo and the Guangzhou Asian Games, Gilani said the results underscored China's competence and organization skills in holding such great events.
During Wen's three-day stay in Islamabad, he is scheduled to meet Pakistani leaders and representatives who have contributed to bilateral friendship.
He will also address a joint session of Pakistan's parliament and inaugurate the China-Pakistan Friendship Center, which was set up to facilitate exchanges among students, media and academic circles.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have signed around 20-billion-dollar worth of deals to boost trade and investment, as Wen Jiabao became the first Chinese premier in five years to visit Islamabad.
The two countries signed 13 agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in fields including energy, rail transport, reconstruction, agriculture and culture, information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira told reporters.
"China will provide assistance in 36 projects in Pakistan to be completed in five years... Basically this is a five-year development plan," the Dawn quoted Kaira, as saying.
He said that 14 billion dollars would come through a joint economic cooperation group, five billion dollars in other business agreements, while deals worth another 10 billion dollars were expected to be concluded at a business leaders' meeting on Saturday.
"Overall the Chinese investment is expected to be around 30 billion dollars," Kaira added.
Although the deals are vitally important to the moribund Pakistani economy, they pale into comparison with Jiabao's agreement in Pakistan's archrival India on Thursday, where New Delhi and Beijing agreed to double bilateral trade to 100 billion dollars by 2015.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have signed around 20-billion-dollar worth of deals to boost trade and investment, as Wen Jiabao became the first Chinese premier in five years to visit Islamabad.
The two countries signed 13 agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in fields including energy, rail transport, reconstruction, agriculture and culture, information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira told reporters.
"China will provide assistance in 36 projects in Pakistan to be completed in five years... Basically this is a five-year development plan," the Dawn quoted Kaira, as saying.
He said that 14 billion dollars would come through a joint economic cooperation group, five billion dollars in other business agreements, while deals worth another 10 billion dollars were expected to be concluded at a business leaders' meeting on Saturday.
"Overall the Chinese investment is expected to be around 30 billion dollars," Kaira added.
Although the deals are vitally important to the moribund Pakistani economy, they pale into comparison with Jiabao's agreement in Pakistan's archrival India on Thursday, where New Delhi and Beijing agreed to double bilateral trade to 100 billion dollars by 2015.

Pakistan, China to formalise $10 bln deals
(December 18, 2010) - China and Pakistan are set to conclude another 10 billion dollars' worth of deals, the latest signings on a trade-focused trip to South Asia by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. Business leaders are scheduled to formalise the deals -- adding to the 20 billion dollars' worth of deals inked Friday -- at Islamabad's five-star Marriott Hotel. Boosting trade and investment have been the main focus of the first visit in five years by a Chinese premier to the nuclear-armed Muslim nation. Pakistan regards China as its closest ally and the deals are seen locally as incredibly important to a moribund economy, which was dealt a massive blow by catastrophic flooding this year and suffers from sluggish foreign investment.
