What's new

Villages across China

I have been to pretty much all parts of China. I have seen houses that were perfectly suitable to be modernized and yet got torn down and at the same spot they built an crappy ugly looking concrete monster void of any culture.
房子首先要能够满足人的各种需要,其次才是外在的所谓文化,所谓灵魂。
中国很大,除了你说的丑陋的混泥土以外,仍然有很多充满艺术感的传统民居。
The house must first be able to meet people's various needs, then outside the so-called culture, the soul.

Chinese great, except you say ugly concrete, there are still a lot of art is full of a sense of traditional dwellings.

Yes but many with wirings poorly installed

Give the craftsmen a better training.

dont fool us with your diatribes
What you have seen are reserved for your own opinion and your experiene is drawn froma very small portion over a vast rural China
By and large, old houses need to be taken down as what I have said and fully legitimised by the want of the people

Poor victim of the Cultural Revolution.

There will be no culture in those concrete monster, not in 1000 years. I have shown samples that it's possible to retain culture and incorporate modernity.

Why cant china build houses that looks traditional on the outside but modern in the inside?

Craftsmanship is secondary to science
Heard of termites and treatment of wood structures against the bugs? We dont apply treated wood piece wildly for the old houses - thus a good cause for demolition of the old ones for new

Poor victim of the Cultural Revolution.

The event is remotely related to the topic in discussion8-)

So more nostalgia or cultural preservation against modernization or green energy - the people's call!

Chinese only a few buildings can save to 1000, because of the traditionalconstruction Oriental is to the wooden structure as the foundation, has the very big difference with europe.

I approve of your traditional culture into the modern architectural statement can,Chinese now also has in the traditional style using modern materials to buildhouses.

Culture and taste takes time, 1980, China rural most people do not have enough to eat, over the past 35 years, have some money to new built house, repairenough sense of art, even ugly can hardly be avoided.

Why cant china build houses that looks traditional on the outside but modern in the inside?

Sure we can but to replicate old houses will cost a lot more as you cant find identical / similar materials of houses built ages ago

All these take money, a lot of it...

Say the need for survivial and prosper is in higher order in current China than the need to appreciate the nostraligia, unlike Europe where the historical population density has been quite low in comparison and its recent history can afford the luxury for re-deco.

Anyway, the most important thing is DNA. It is impossible for "those concret monster to keep their current form and shape in 100 or 1000 more years", because once the priority is changed, Han Chinese DNA will produce stunningly original architectures once again.

History will never be buried. It always re-emerges, as along as the original DNA is there.

What an ignorant crap. We, too, have termites in Germany and what do you think our half-timbered houses are made of?

It is best to write English as it is the common rule of this international forum.

It is also polite to do so to nake yourself understood by others who can't read Chinese.

It has nothing to do with personal feelings of any language.

What an ignorant crap. We, too, have termites in Germany and what do you think our half-timbered houses are made of?

It takes money to build those ugly monsters too. It's not like new villages with a Chinese soul can't be built with all modern amenities.

yeah it takes money, but it takes less money.

one thing people can easily forget when look at this is that china is in the middle of fierce industrial revolution, the cruel kind - the same as Dickens' 19 th century England, in which no matter the govt or the real estate private firms are making these ugly monsters, they unfortunately all share a common denominator - these concret buggers can save much more money than their traditional all-wood counterparts (or the re-deco works of them) with shocks and awes of internal main beams.
