Sea trials of the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya are scheduled to start on May 25, Russia’s Sevmash shipyard said.

The vessel, will be taken to the White Sea and then to the Barents Sea where it will stay for three to four months. “After sea trials are complete, we plan to transfer the carrier to India by December 4,” Sevmash said.

At present, the Vikramaditya’s main power generators are being tested and the sleeping and living quartes are being fininshed. Crew training was completed in late March, Sevmash said.

The Vikramaditya, previously known as the Admiral Gorshkov, is a Soviet-made Project 1143.4 class aircraft carrier. It was sold to India in 2004 but will be delivered only in 2012, after a refit that lasted eight years and was the subject of an on-going dispute between the two sides over cost.

India has already started taking delivery of MiG-29K naval fighter aircraft for the Vikramaditya.

hmm pakistan and china has to catch up fast :agree:
No pakistan can think of building nuke subs that will be better, for them... AC's r big scraps and they don't have nuke power if india would have got nuke AC then pakistan should have build it...
@topic : Man it's very old news, months before we have heard the same news. Waiting for some news pics..

Good News,
This deal has taught Indian Military planners tons of lessons and for Russians, this distanced their biggest customer for many a mega deals.

Sorry for asking. I really am not trolling. What J stands for in J-10 /15/xx ?

J stands for Jian, which means annihilation in Chinese.

So J-15 can be translated into the direct English meaning like Annihilator-15 for example.

Look who's comparing with what! First design a carrier of your own rather than making secret buys from Ukraine of a scrappy old ship...

Good luck with that to face the USN in the pacific ocean.

PLAN never expects Varyag to match the US supercarrier, but it serves as a training carrier, which has been reiterated many times.

That's one cool name...:woot::woot::woot:
Waiting for Annihilator 3000:enjoy:
Vikramaditya has been costly but only because the russians gave us the latest tech and had to refurbish the AC's hull which was in a very bad condition.....
It looks very expensive infront of Vikrant only because Vikrant was made in India where PPP comes into play

one third smaller than what? Ten times more expensive than what? Name a carrier that comes at a tenth the price.

And how is that floating casino cum museum ship coming along? Managed to scrap off all the rust yet?

Varyag is the sucessor generation of the Soviet carriers compared to the Admiral Gorshkov, so there is nothing wrong to say it is superior compared to its predecessor generation.
