VIEW: Stop blaming the West

There is some truth to what T-Faz says. Look Pakistan calls one of its parliamentary houses as Senate and the American influence is palpable when their security forces and emergency personnel wear T-Shirts with their organization's name on them - a typical American influence. Pakistan also has a citizen database system and calls its central government the Federal Government and the internal investigation agency, the FIA. If you look at India, all these idiosyncracies are absent, because India's governance concepts were drawn from the UK and USSR, and India used the word Central a lot. It appears that Pakistan in its formative years actually wanted to model itself on American governance systems. This may have been because America may have had deep influence on its formative leaders, especially as a counter to India, which was thought of as having tilted over to the USSR side. But, somewhere the Saudi renegades and Zia stepped in, and swoosh, we have Afghan problems, Kashmir insurgency, extremist indoctrination, mushrooming of Madrassahs and Pakistan ends up losing its way.

Zia was the beginning of an unwanted change that has hurt Pakistan to a great extent. But you have to remember that the soviet invasion of Afghanistan had a big hand in all this too.

The soviet invasion resulted in mass immigration to Pakistan and the subsequent events where Pakistan spearheaded operation cyclone opened a vacuum of militants. These militants were not aggressively Islamic in nature but CIA brought in the Arabs who brainwashed one and all through their own funded madrases.

There was a big need after the soviet pullout to work on development and education but as US pulled out, the mess got worse and today everyone is suffering because of it.

I believe all this is reversible and hope to see the problem being solved eventually with the help of multiple parties.

If anyone jumps out early, this problem will only get worse. War is not the solution, dialogue is and development of the region whereby people are lifted out of poverty and do not fall into the extremist trap.

How much more do you want to save Pakistan Maj. Gel. (Maj. Gen.?). Don't you think that now your saving business should be left to the young and pragmatic citizens of a democratic Pakistan and this ideology of yours should actually now retire?

Edit: Having read views of some Pakistani members here, I am sure that water is under the bridge with your "Islamic" argument now. Also, when you quote your 7 lac army fighting in the name of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, please also see the bunch that it is fighting. That is where the Islamic additions to Pakistan has led the country and its Army.

There is no turning back on the "Islamic" part and this is a fact. The extremists have to be moderated and this is the only solution out of the current situation.

Pakistan has not come 63 years to turn back now. The water under the bridge is in terms of the character of the nation. The nation has picked a path of Islamization and this is where its going.

Islamization does not have to be "in your face" kind. I suspect we will have to deal with this type for some years to come but eventually will give way to moderation.

Sir, the moderation that you wish to espouse can be achieved only by promotion of an inclusive and tolerant social setup. Any path to create an inclusive society will have to go thru the rethinking on the theological impetus in Pakistan. The correct version of the religion while being the broad guiding principle for the current day Pakistan will need to be separated from the state to convey the message of universal justice to the populace.

And by the end, I am sure that the "moderation" that you propose anyway alludes to the religious tolerance and inclusive thinking, then why not consider the "moderation" of Islam in Pakistan as in fact a path to moving to a welfare state from the current theocratic nature?
