Vietnamese old pictures

Vanlang kingdom's of Viets, north point reached to Dongding lake in China. Southern land reached to Hu Sun (Ho Ton) country, where was country of Malayo people.

It was in ancient time.:coffee:

It is stated in History book of Vietnam.:enjoy:
I could say it may be some memories from acient Chinese fleed to Northern Vietnam.

So beautiful. There's a Chinese student in one of my classes that has her look. So innocent looking, and delicate .

Delicious.

in ancient time Han chinese lived in Zhong Yuan, southern land of China was territory of Bai Yue.

According to Vietnamese, which part of China (provinces) is south China and which is north China ?

And you are wrong, there are Han Chinese in the south too, you can't say it was only Bai Yue's territory, Qin's administration reached the very south of China.

The bored Vietnamese , Baiyue in ancient times has nothing to do with your Vietnamese now. and Baiyue had lived in Chinese southeastern provinces in ancient times . Southestern land of china has nothing to do with you ,to say nothing of south-certral and southwestern land. There were kinds of ethnic groups lived in land of south china in ancient times , as it is now. DO you know why China has 56 ethnic groups ? Because there is no indigenous people in Chinese land and China is one of the few multiracial countries that has no indigenous people in the world , Han Chinese living with the other minorities together from ancient times to today.

Don't involve relation with everything of China and Chinese minorities have nothing to do with you ,too . SORRY!

And which mail order bride site did you find her?
no mail order bride, just random pictures. she is jennifer chung, migrates to america long time ago, and now lives in california.

IMHO, the most beautiful Chinese are Cantonese. I've dated a Cantonese girl in the past, and they're very homely , kind, caring, yet also stern when needed. Definitely a type that I would consider introducing to my parents, if ever the time arises. Northern Chinese are beautiful, too, facial features are similar to Japanese and Korean.

But something about Cantonese girls that capture me.... :)

Not all. Cantonese are actually one of the most beautiful , imho. They have gorgeous almond shaped eyes, and on general, Cantonese are very homely. Definitely the type I could marry...and make beautiful hybrid Japanese-Chinese babies... ;) ;)
well, I can agree to you in most parts.

one thing about the language: when I listen to chinese people talking in cantonese, I often mistake them being angry and shouting at each other (in reality it is not, they just talk in normal way like anyone else). as for vietnamese, as one chinese puts it once: vietnamese sounds like two ducks having sex :D

Why you hate the Manchus? Even most Han Chinese today don't hate the Manchus anymore.

What the Manchus have done to your people?
the manchu were arrogant. I told you already: they loved to look down on us, once placed vietnam in the tributary world lower than korea, siam and laos. the worst part: the qing government did not lift a finger to help vietnam in the struggle against the french invasion. and when they finally came, it was too late.

I have noticed that Vietnamese would always mentioned BaiYue,and what's your knowledge of that? You can share it with us.
I'd like to share some I have known.BaiYue can be separated into 2 Chinese words. Bai with 百 in Chinese means many or hundreds of,and Yue with 越 or 粤 has different meanings. When BaiYue translated into 百越,it means the hundreds of tribes located in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River like JiangXi province and ZheJiang province, but it refers to the hundreds of tribes in the southern Nanling Mountains when BaiYue translated into 百粤.
I do believe Vietnamese came from a branch or a sub-branch of them, and many ancestors of the people in Indo-China Peninsula came from China more or less. But if you say the ancestors of Vietnam came from China, the Southern Vietnam may not agree.I would say that their culture originated from Khmer.

This is so-called beauty assumed you Vietnamese ?

It seems to promote mutual feelings of between Chinese and vietnamese in the argument like so .Some Vietnam people liked to do that ,so we should have fun with them.

no, there is no difference in cultures and custom between southern and northern vietnamese.
according to latest scientific findings (harvard medical school, at cetera), vietnamese forefathers came from taiwan thousands of years ago. over the years, they mixed with locals: chinese, mongols and of course the yue tribes.

She's beautiful ! Im assuming she's Nguoi Kinh. Her facial features -- the high cheek bones, prominent epicanthal folds of the eyes, long nasal bridge, and reasonably fair complexion -- its a trait of East Asian Race. She looks different from the Khmer Krom of Vietnam or some Vietnamese who have misceginated with Khmers and Champa people. The latter have flatter nasal bridge, darker complexion, and less prominence in the epicanthal folds.

There is , definitely, a lexical and phonetic difference when listening to Mandarin and Cantonese. Cantonese , as what Westerners refer to 粵語 (Yue dialect) is, in my opinion, the closest we have to classical Chinese phonology. In fact, some of the old Tang poems we have in Japanese museums -- are best read in Cantonese because it captures the Middle Chinese -- which is closely similar to Yue , or we refer to as Gwuangdongguo wu (language of the Guangdong Country). Spoken Cantonese, is very soft , it is actually one of the most beautiful Sinitic dialects. In my honest opinion.

Hello!Well I have an idea of going around HCMC wearing an Ao Dai when I go there end of April. Do you happen to know where I can buy one? I know the best Ao Dai makers are in Hoi An but I do hope I could find a good and affordable Ao Dai in HCMC. Thanks!~Haydee
Heydee

While you will not be the ONLY lady in an Ao Dai....you might well be the only tourist wearing one! LOL

I had to ask my wife on this one, and while you can buy them at Ben Thanh Market, as well as many other places, even on the streets, she said the better and cheaper place is:

Cho Tan Binh (Tan Binh Market), Ly Thuong Kiet St,, Tan Binh District, HCMC.

I asked her the cost, but that is difficult to say as there are so many styles and designs'. 'But on average expect to pay between 250,000-600,000D ($20-30 USD) for an inexpensive one.

Here is a picture of my wife and mother in law in their traditional (wife's) wedding Ao Dai.

Cantonese sound also varies, tones of Cantonese in Guangdong areas (Mainland) are different compared to HK.

I agree with you ! I noticed this when I hear people from HK talk as say hearing people from Guangzhou and surrounding towns. Btw, in regards to the history, the reason why I am so fond of Cantonese is because Guangdong wu (Yue language) preserves the lingua franca of the Tang Dynasty, which, in my opinion, is probably the most effective Imperial Dynasty of China (I would even argue that the Tang was greater than even the Han).

Tangyun_-_Chinese_Dictionary_Museum[1].JPG

Here is a Chinese dictionary from Tang dynasty. Modern Cantonese pronunciation is more similar to spoken Chinese from this era than other Chinese varieties.

And in regards to Japan; most of our cultural influence from China had begun and was expediated by the Tang Dynasty. Tang architecture, Tang writings, poems, Tang artistry, Tang technology, all of that was flourishing in Japan. This is the period where China and Japan was flourishing together, in abundant trade. This is why -- we tend to have a great love and fascination for Tang Dynasty, Tang Culture, and most importantly the Tang Dynasty's Lingua Franca, which is Gwuangdongwu, or Yue Language (Laowai or Gaijin will call it -- Cantonese).
