Georgian Foreign Affairs officials visit Vietnam

A delegation from the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Deputy Minister D. Jalagania, is in Vietnam from March 6-9 on a working visit.

The delegation attended a political consultation at the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has been working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

The sides focused their discussions on how to foster co-operation in economics-commerce and education-training; stepping up co-operation agreements in customs procedures and avoiding double taxation; exchanging ideas on international and regional issues, and boosting co-operation between the two ministries of foreign affairs.

Jalagania affirmed that developing relations with Vietnam is important to Georgia, and expressed his hope to strengthen and enhance the traditional friendship between the two countries.

PM to attend high-level meetings in Laos

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will conduct a number of high-level meetings during an upcoming tour of northern Laos.

PM Dung will lead the high-ranking delegation invited by Lao counterpart Thongsing Thammavong to participate in senior meetings in Vientiane from March 12–15.

He will chair the 7th Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam (CLV) Senior Meeting; attend the 6th Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV-6) Meeting; and join the 5th ACMECS (Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy) Summit.

VietNamNet Bridge – At the age of 31, Mr. Nguyen Minh Sang became the mayor of a city of the state of Victoria. Sang is the first Asian who becomes a mayor in Australia. He is one of the first who have built the organization of the Vietnamese community in Victoria and turned it into a strong community in Australia.

He was born in Long Xuyen province, but Sang grew up in Saigon. Sang went to Australia with the family of his uncle when he was 17. That was 1977. At that time, there were only about 1,000 Vietnamese immigrants in Australia and Sang was one of the first Vietnamese settlers in Victoria.
 
Cuba, Vietnam hold political consultation

(VOV) - Cuba and Vietnam have agreed to work closely together to improve medium- and long-term economic cooperation, as well as exchange of both theoretical and practical experience in areas of mutual concern to serve the national interest and development.

A Vietnamese Foreign Ministry delegation led by Deputy Minister Ho Xuan Son visited Cuba from March 2-5 to conduct political consultations between the two foreign ministries.

Bankers, laborers, teachers and lawyers, many of them immigrants, were among the crowd that swarmed Westminster City Hall to witness the swearing-in of the first Vietnamese American mayor of the city, birthplace of Little Saigon.

A diverse group of about 200 packed the Westminster City Council meeting, with plenty of Asian and Latino faces cheering for Tri Ta when he took the oath of office Wednesday night standing next to his wife and daughters.

Police turned some guests away, telling them to listen through the speakers set up outside.

"I believe he will bring a lot of new ideas to us," said former Mayor Kathy Buchoz, who served in the 1980s. "He deserves it. He's worked hard for it. I think he has integrity. And it's about time."

Vietnam expects to share experience of anti-corruption with other nations in the world in general and Philippines in particular, PM Nguyen Tan Dung confirmed.

PM Dung made the statement on March 11 while receiving Philippine Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales.

Welcoming her official visit to Viet Nam, the PM stressed that Viet Nam treasured stronger multi-faceted relations with the Philippines for the sake of the two sides’ development and for prosperity of ASEAN.

Mrs. Conchita Carpio Morales revealed that, the two inspectorates in the morning had discussed and exchanged experience of anti-corruption. The two sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which is regarded as the foundation to accelerate the two agencies’ relations and cooperation.
 
NA leader holds talks with Russian PM

(VOV) - The two leaders have agreed on measures to further strengthen the parliamentary relations and develop the ties of friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership.

While meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on March 11, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung expressed his delight at Russia’s constant growth and his belief that under the clear-sighted leadership of PM Medvedev, the Russian Government will reap greater achievements in national construction to improve its international status.

The Vietnamese top legislator spoke highly of the two countries’ effective cooperation in implementing the comprehensive strategic partnership, especially in security-defence, technique- military affairs, culture, education and science and technology.

He suggested the two sides should move towards the early singing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the Customs Alliance (Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus) in the next two years to raise two-way trade to US$7 billion by 2015.

For his part, PM Medvedev described the Vietnamese NA delegation’s visit as a positive contribution to fostering the friendship and parliamentary cooperation between the two nations.
 
Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture visits Vietnam

Mozambique’s Minister of Agriculture Jose Pacheco has expressed his wish to exchange experience with Vietnam, especially in the field of agriculture and food security.

During his March 11 meeting in Hanoi with Le Hong Anh, Politburo member and Standing member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Jose Pacheco briefed his host on his country’s current situation, including the results of the FRELIMO 10th Congress. He also mentioned cooperation plans and projects between the agriculture sectors of the two countries.

Pacheco, who is also a Politburo member and Secretary of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) Central Committee, voiced his hope to further strengthen cooperation between the two Parties and States in all fields, especially in economics, trade and investment.

He praised Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements over the past years, as well as its increasing role in the region and world.

While receiving Vice Chairman of the Czech House of Representatives’ Economic Committee Ales Radl in Hanoi on March 11, Ngan thanked the Czech Government and people for providing Vietnam with official development assistance (ODA), and affirmed that the Vietnamese Government has used the aid effectively.

During his meeting with Takebe Tsutomu, former President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance in Hanoi on March 11, Rua, who is also President of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians Group, expressed his pleasure at the growing ties between the countries.

In reply, Takebe spoke highly of the development of all-around cooperation between the two countries, and affirmed that he will spare no effort to help strengthen its strategic partnership with Vietnam, especially in the implementation of large scale joint projects.

Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) need to accelerate regional integration, improve their role in regional and global production chains, and narrow the development gap between them and other ASEAN countries.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the remarks at the 6th CLMV Summit in Vientiane on March 12.

He affirmed the Vietnamese Government’s strong commitment to CLMV cooperation and said he hopes the four countries’ governments will continue to work closely to implement cooperation programmes in the future.

Canada always attaches importance to the role and position of Vietnam in its diplomatic strategy, Foreign Minister John R. Baird told President Truong Tan Sang in Hanoi on March 12.

Canada is paying due attention to Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, due to its dynamic international integration and the cooperation potential between nations in the region, added Baird.

He voiced Canadian organisations and businesses’ desires to strengthen investment and expand their operations in Vietnam, and expressed his hope to enhance the two countries’ relations bilaterally and multilaterally.

(VOV) -Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with his Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra in Vientiane on March 12 to discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 6th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit (CLMV 6), the 5th Ayeyawadi-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy Summit (ACMECS 5) and the seventh Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Summit (CLV 7).

The two PMs expressed delight at the constant development of friendship and comprehensive cooperation in politics, national security and defense, economy, trade, investment, social affairs and culture, especially since the Thailand-Vietnam Joint Cabinet Meeting in Hanoi on October 27, 2012.
 
Myanmar Vice President to visit Vietnam

The visit was made at the invitation of Vice President of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Doan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
