UK's Secretary of State for Wales visits Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City and the UK’s Wales are committed to strengthening their cooperation in tourism, trade, and financial and banking services.

Both sides have agreed to improve links in education, in particular tertiary education, which is the UK’ s strength.

During his visit to HCM City on March 21, the UK's Secretary of State for Wales, David Jones, told Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hong that he was impressed by the strong development of Vietnam in general, and of HCM City in particular and saw many opportunities for bilateral cooperation in business and investment.
 
Belgian Namur governor visits Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City will do its utmost to develop its relationship with Belgium’s Namur province, said Mayor Le Hoang Quan.

At the reception for Namur governor Denis Mathen on March 25, Quan expressed delight at the development of relationships between Vietnam and Belgium in general, and between Ho Chi Minh City and Namur in particular, adding that the Belgian ODA- funded projects in the city have gained effective results.

Ho Chi Minh City and Namur can cooperate in a wide range of areas including economics, science, culture, education and tourism, Quan noted.

The Namur governor said this is his first trip to Vietnam as part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of the Vietnam - Belgium diplomatic ties.
 
Vietnam, Qatar strengthen ties

(VOV) - Both sides have agreed to soon organize the first meeting of the Vietnam-Qatar Intergovernmental Committee, aiming to finalize a legal framework and set orientations for future cooperation in various fields.

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh began his official visit to Qatar on March 24 at the invitation of Qatari Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani.

They also suggested businesses should strengthen information exchange to seek cooperation opportunities for stronger economic, trade and investment relations.
 
Dominica fosters relations with Vietnam

(VOV) - The Dominican Republic wants to expand cooperation with Vietnam not only in politics, but also in economics, trade and culture, says President Danilo Medina.

While receiving a Vietnamese Party Commission for External Relations on March 22, Medina expressed his admiration for Vietnamese people’s past struggle for national independence and their current Renewal achievements.

He recalled that in the 1960s he took to the street joining other young Dominican people in demonstrations against the war in Vietnam.

The president suggested that both countries open their embassies in their capitals to facilitate bilateral cooperation programmes.
 
Vietnam, France moving towards strategic partnership

(VOV) - Both countries have agreed to lift their current relations to the level of strategic partnership.

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh is on an official visit to France from March 26-28 at the invitation of his French counterpart Laurent Fabius.

During the visit, FM Binh Minh paid a courtesy visit to French Prime Minister Jean Marc Ayrault and held talks with Senate Speaker Jean-Pierre Bel, President of the National Assembly Claude Bartolone and French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Laurent Fabius.

RoK, Vietnam sign anti-corruption pact

(VOV) - The Government Inspectorate of Vietnam (GIV) and the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission of Korea (ACRC) signed a memorandum of understanding in Seoul on March 27 to strengthen cooperation in combating corruption.

The MoU was signed by ACRC President Lee Sung-ho and Government Inspector General Huynh Phong Tranh, who visited the Republic of Korea from March 25-29.
 
Vietnam to host 2015 IPU General Assembly

(VOV) - The General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on March 27 approved Vietnam’s proposal to host the 132nd IPU General Assembly in 2015.

The Vietnam General Assembly made the proposal to the IPU in August 2012 and the IPU Secretariat examined Vietnam’s capacity early this year.

Vietnam’s bid received strong support from all countries of ASEAN plus 3 (ASEAN+3) and the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) at the 128th session of the IPU General Assembly in Ecuador.

Prime Minister to visit Russia, Belarus

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will pay official visits to the Russian Federation from May 12-15 and the Republic of Belarus from May 15-17.

The visits were made at the invitation of Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev and Belarus PM Mikhail Myasnikovich, according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs communiqué released on May 7.
