Yawwnn .... Waiting :undecided:

Interestingly enough, I see Vietnamese girls working in SG in professional environments but never Vietnamese guys. Wonder why that is. Maybe its because they are just more level head? Go figure

This is on a separate post

Vietnamese are generally East Asians (similar cultures etc). Generally all East Asians countries have made it one way of the other, I have no doubt they will get there if the government gets their act together. We will see

In Vietnam, girls or women are working in offices or do small business. The guys or men have to care hard works. It's normal life.

Ah zo, quite an ambitious man you are. But which neighbors you're going to scare off by dragging all weapons you bought from Russia? Cambodia or the Burmese?

My friend, there are some times that we have to keep our head low and admit that there are more skies above the sky we settle our body down, I hope you understand the meaning of it. :)

I am not underestimating Vietnam in fact I am admiring Vietnam, I am just trying to be reasonable based on a reliable study which came up with some criteria. So, I will have my time to explain to you that maybe (excuse me if I am wrong) you have been taking the word of "Major Power" wrong. As I have shown the criteria I mentioned to Shuttler, you must be understand that being a major power in the region is not only about how strong a country's military is. If we take it simple, to be recognized as "major power" a country's military needs to be comparatively strong among the neighboring countries, its economy must be dependable and relatively strong, a country needs to be influencing in order to exert decisive influence in making regional ideology and define regional security agenda into higher degree such as the U.N. Influence can only be gained by being acknowledged appreciated as "Major Power" by the neighboring countries in the region and being recognized by other Major Powers worldwide, a thing that can only be gained by having well connection both in the region and globally. But before that all, a country must have its own claim to be a regional power.

In this case, Vietnam may have maintained a comparatively strong military power and strong ambition. But its economy is not yet capable to be the region's economic pillar, as we know that there are 4 countries in S.E.A that holding those pillars, unfortunately, Vietnam is not yet one of those countries. If we go to influence area, Vietnam is sadly not yet capable to drag other countries in the region into its own thinking way, the last ASEAN meeting proves that. Without a proper influence, how can Vietnam able to define the regional agenda, both economically and security, forgive me if I look like showing off, but as we know that the ASEAN community 2015 is proposed by Indonesia and every country in the region seems to be accepting it, not mentioning how Indonesia turned down Cambodia's shocking movement.

If you still want to brag about defining major power by your own definition, at least, try to answer these questions;

1. Is Vietnam already replacing Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and our little baby brother Singapore in term of economy and Military? That means Vietnam will have to at least top Indonesia's current economy state which hold half of ASEAN economy and Singaporean most modern armed force in the region as well as Thai's air power.

2. Is Vietnam already replacing Indonesia in term of influence and power to connect all of ASEAN members properly?

3. More importantly, is Vietnam already being recognized as regional power by its own neighbors?

If no-s are your answer, therefore, there's no way other neighboring countries, including the other recent influencing countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore would recognize Vietnam as Regional Power of the region.

About controlling biggest part in S.C.S, that's not the way the world defines major regional powers. Yet, your controlling claim has not yet been tested in major conflict, including armed and economic conflict. Try to invade another neighboring country's territories, if you can survive both economically and stability in gaining those territories after the war, then maybe the title of major power can be placed onto you.

I am sorry if there's unsuitable words out off my writings, may you are as forgivable as God himself. Cheers mate. :)

We don't care about that Vietnam is regional power or not. After 3 wars against France, USA and China we focus on develop our country and protect sovereignty of us first.
For SCS, Paracel and Spratly Island belong to Vietnam from old time. In time of Nguyen Dynasty there was Hoang Sa Flottia with main resonsibility to controle our Islands.

Bro, German instute is in the West, and the West has diffrent view with the East like us. The West is always try to show off what they have when the East, specialy VN always try to Hide the Real power and only show it when necessary.

We had 10 years conflict with Thailand from 1979 to 1988,and we also have dispute with Philipine,Malaysia,Brunei in SCS(east sea) so, we don't wanna scare them now

So, I think you should not read some states abt a regional power from the West, if they state correctly, then they would not be Defeated by VN in VN-Laos-Cambodia:pop:

I think VN worker got higher payment than Indonesian when working in Malaysia, right ??

Malaysia-Thailand-Sing economy is under control of Chinese ethnic, and they also have support for US for a long time when we got hard sanctions from US-China after defeating them, So their economy look better than us now, but we soon overcome them after 20-30 year.

Malaysia-Thailand-Sing-Indonesia military have Nothing special to compare with us, we have some kind of weapon of mass destruction like:
+ Nuclear capable anti-carrier balistic missile Shaddock with warhead of 1,000 tons, range of 550km.Even China doesn't have a same missile like Shaddock.

+ CBU 55 that can destroy a small town or kill 20,000 troops in single blast (got from US after VN war).
HQPD_1334019495.jpg

Otherwise we also have special troops that even US-China also can't compare.

+ Perfect spies who can fool CIA and steal important intelligent from enemy, even Chinese can't do like this.
bookCover.jpg

+ Special 'mud men' who can sneak inside enemy base, destroy enemy hardware and withdraw without being detected. VN war, VN-China war proved their might.

2. Is Vietnam already replacing Indonesia in term of influence and power to connect all of ASEAN members properly?
Thaland has accused us to stand behind Thai-Cambodia conflict, so we can't replace you in this position.
3. More importantly, is Vietnam already being recognized as regional power by its own neighbors?
We don't need to be recognized by our own neighbors .They can say whatever they want abt us.

So, we have diffrent point of view, we only consider some one as major regional powers when he can prove his strength in Real conflict.

In SCS(east sea) conflict, Even China-Phil-Malaysia-Brunei combine still can't match with us, if you don't consider VN as major regional powers ,then, Oki, that's your choices,we have no comments:coffee:

@Viva_Viet: the way you said just like a Vietnamese from Cali, you know it's mean!?

Believe me, being called as "regional power" or whatever by others is the least what we have in mind today.

Sure, Indonesia fits better in the category than Vietnam in terms of GDP and population. It´s India which says we are "regional power" for the first time. You call ask India to replace Vietnam with your country name, if you like. Hence, the 4 points you listed are not applicable to us.

Cheers!

I find it funny how people keep using this stupid CBU 55 to boast when they cannot justify if a 40 year old bomb will even work or blow up in their faces as soon as some guy decides to shift it.

Not to mention the delivery mechanism of this overweight piano to an enemy would be akin to operation Dumbo drop in an era where radar even detect a Cessna plane from 100's of km's away.

This gets mention so many times I seriously wonder if the Vietnamese posters take this seriously, cause if anyone takes it seriously that person in my book is well retarded

Anyway back on topic, regional power or not in my book is just a fancy term. A true power is one that can take care of its citizens at home and abroad.

Go to the country and see how the lowest rungs of its citizens are treated, that will define how much of a power it really is.

Evny with our lovely CUB-55 again ?? you should know that just with 3,4 CBU 55 drop to Singapore, your country will be erased in the world map before I finish my popcorn pack:pop:

Yeah Yeah, talk to me when your countryman stop coming to my country to find work. Till that day happens I don't really give a toss. A Regional power title is just a puff of air when a country can't hold on to its own people.

Say what you want reality speaks for itself. Loser

Doomsday confirmed: The Kra Canal

http://www.thaipro.com/thailand_00/109_kra_canal.htm

Time and again, over the last three centuries, the vision of a vital waterway linking the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea has surfaced - along with the dire economic threat that it will pose to Singapore. Now, the reality of a Kra Canal in Thailand being built is fast taking shape, following the collapse of a top-level US$2 billion ($3.51 billion) pipeline deal to move oil from Russia to China.

The failure of the deal, which would have carried up to 20 million tons of oil each year from the Russian republic of Sakha in Siberia, underscores the urgency energy-hungry China faces to ensure that Middle Eastern supplies reach its ports safely.

Thailand has much to gain from a Kra Canal project. Singapore has just as much to lose. The Kra Canal, which has the potential of diverting half the shipping tonnage now calling at Singapore ports up north to Thailand, will have an impact on the Republic’s economy which will be huge and permanent.

China badly needs imported oil to fuel its growth and its leaders are seriously looking at the Kra Canal as an alternative to the Straits of Malacca.

The Straits, which presents the shortest sea journey between Europe, Middle East and North Asia, is one of the most important waterways in the world, and most of China’s and Japan’s oil imports pass through it.

But the Straits is narrow: The Philip Channel near Singapore is only 2.5km wide, which creates a natural bottleneck with the potential for a collision, grounding or, after the Sept 11 attacks in the United States, sabotage by terrorists.

A large oil tanker sunk at the Philip Channel could well force vessels to take a long detour and hold up oil imports to China and Japan for weeks. As China is said to have as little as seven days of oil in reserve, it is clear why its leaders are anxious to help jump-start the Kra Canal project.

To cost at least US$20 billion, the project proposes to carve out a 50-km waterway across Thailand’s narrow Kra Isthmus. The canal will allow vessels plying the Europe-Middle East-North Asia route to bypass the Straits of Malacca and cut their journey by at least 1,000km.

Of course, any vessel bypassing the Straits will bypass Singapore too.

The Kra Canal could pose a bigger threat to Singapore than the loss of manufacturing jobs, the exodus of business to China and the devastation of Sars put together.

Singapore, despite the publicity it has reaped from its high-tech reputation, has always relied on its position as Asia’s top transshipment point for its prosperity.

Last month, the Beijing-controlled Economy magazine stated that it would be in China’s interest to invest billions of dollars in the Kra Canal to reduce its dependency on the Straits of Malacca “choke point”.

HHQ-7 is weak, now most PLAN using HHQ-9 and HHQ-16 VLS anti-aircraft missile to pretect warships. Much futher and more powerful than that.

China invested money in that canal, it certainly will serve for China's interests and parnters.
I can't remeber when Vietnam become a China's parnter in Southeast Asia?

US seven fleet had a long enough casualty list in VN war already, so they will help No one if VN troops are there. As u could see, US did Nothing to help Thailand during VN-Thai 10 years conflict, so forget her help to Singapore if we attack that tiny country now.
