While I am no supporter or proponent of valentines as it is a rehash by greeting card companies back in the 60-70s to boost their sales; it seems the IHC and generally the useless majority of Pakistani public has nothing better to find an prohibit according to "Islam"

They cannot implement any actual shariat in their own personal and private lives so they spend it like squaking crows trying to make up for their own guilt by such public drama.

Idiots will spend their lives on facebook writing posts suh as "please like for sawab" on ideas such as this but are unwilling to stand up against corruption or even sectarian hatred.

Santa Clause (Kerstman) originates, among other things, in the Dutch St Nicolas (Sinterklaas) tradition. Here, you 'do' either Sinterklaas or Kerstman (typically Dutch: we don't wan't to have 2 occasions in December where gift are given ;-). Which doesn't mean you can't celebrate Christmas after you celebrated St Nicolas' birthday. It used to be that stores would not carry Christman displays prior to December 6th. However, that stage is behind is: commercially, Christmas selling starts well before St Nicolas (unfortunately).

I am in favor of caning Santa's appearing before December 6th. (but we have enough troubles with Black Peter, so I'll refrain from implementing this). Santa Claus, with its commercial emphasis on eating and gifts, detracts much from the underlying Christian story and values.

The current Santa Claus has much more to do with the Nordic mythology,
where You celebrated the Winter Solstice at Yuletide.
Since it was hard to stop people from celebrating Yuletide, Christian missionaries
started celebrating the birth of Christ at the sane time to hi-jack the holiday.
Santa Claus was based on "Tomten" - a grumpy old man taking care of Your farm,
and You should give him a bowl of porridge on X Mas Day = Yule Day.

Yep, many of these celebrations are promoted by smart sales.

Started all with greeting cards. That is not to say the day was not known or did not exist, but it was very localized to coastal effluent and upper middle class within the US.

It took off with printing companies wanting in on the handwritten notes the socialites were using for this day and then they never looked back.

Many of 1940's people beyond big cities never heard of it.

More importantly, somehow stopping valentines wont kill off infatuations, love or affairs or make people stop

That is something going on since forever, only the means for it changed.

A better way is pushing against one's own social circle against this day- don't need valentines to celebrate the holidays idea of love. All it does is give the many single guys here green eyes and green faces where they end up coming with all sorts of related and unrelated theories.

Islamabad High Court has banned Valentine’s Day celebration all across the country today.



The court passed an order regarding this after hearing a petition calling for Valentine’s Day to be banned since it is not part of Muslim tradition.

The court order states that any Valentine’s day related activities and festivities will not be allowed to be held in public places. The order also imposed a similar bar on official level as well. The media, both electronic and print, have been cautioned against giving any coverage to the ‘day of love.’

The information ministry, PEMRA chairman, Federal government and chief commissioner have all been directed to submit a reply in this regard within the next 10 days.

Valentine’s Day has no connection with our culture and it should be avoided,” Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain

It should be mentioned that last year, Mamnoon Hussain also stated that Valentine’s Day has no part in our culture and that it is a western tradition that we could do without.

,The names Pres. Mamnoon Hussain, and he made a statement in media some time back but did'nt make the petition in IHC neither made the ruling so u are accusing him without basis.
Why fear when so-called couples won't be stopped and find a way. The only thing this is going to hurt is corporate marketing as well as media profiteering on this foreign imposed festival.
