US will stand by its defense treaty regarding Diayudai, says Panetta

The Diaoyutai is a disputed territory and Panetta clearly says the US defense treaty with Japan does not cover such territories.

You clearly do not understand the difference between "sovereignty" and "administration". The defense treaty covers the "administration" part and has nothing to do with "sovereignty claims". Who cares if the Diaoyudai is disputed? It is clearly under the Japanese administration and that alone qualifies the invocation of the 5th article of the defense treaty. Japan can claim the Liancourt Rocks and Kurils all they want, but the defense treaty doesn't cover those because they are not administered by Japan.

obviously, we stand by our treaty obligations,” Panetta said.
Panetta said that the US had certain obligations under the defense treaty on Diaoyudai, so what obligation is he talking about?

I don't understand why a Korean US lapdog is on a pro-Pakistani, pro-china, anti-Western forum besides propaganda reasons.

To educate Pakistani posters on dangers of befriending China, I have stated my objectives several times.

LOL Pakistani's aren't idiots. Typical American brainwashing tactics....

Friendship between China and Pakistan was established before America even existed. You have no business here as a Korean American lapdog.

Here are the facts.

1. This dispute could never be resolved diplomatically. Nationalism on both side doesn't allow a diplomatic settlement.
2. This dispute could only be resolved militarily.
3. The US forces will be at Diaoyudai alongside SDF forces on the day of the showdown.
4. The only chance for the PLA is to grow strong enough to overcome and defeat the combined forces of the US and Japan.

You can interpret anyway you want to suit your agenda but like all treaties they are open to interpretations by the relevant parties when it suits their national interests. Panetta, by putting the second line in, gives him a way out when crunch time come for a decision. You are a technical guide and your feels for politics are still at a juvenile level. In politic one plus one does not necessary means two.

That's what the Chinese government does. Not the US, especially regarding the defense treaties.

It is very different set of mentality we are talking.

And India wasn't a fully unified nation before the Brits conquered it. Before Britain, India had many warring races and cultures that never considered themselves "Indian".

That doesn't mean the muslim pakistani identity didn't exist.

You are confused sir...take a long ride

The Japanese occupy parts of Korean islands! Why you support Nippon when they create shinto shrines for anti Korean generals and war crimes is beyond my mind!!

"Korean" supports a nation which denys its war crimes and still honors war criminals..

I'm not very sure who he is but many in here suspect he's an Indian national. The sole purpose for him in forum is to bash and condemn China. In real life Koreans have no trouble at all with the Chinese and in fact I wouldn't surprised the two countries will team up together against Japan in their respective disputes by backing each others' claims.

I think she has a China complex. Everything she posts is about China or some oblique reference to China

LOL Must be.

He has been banned frequently and the previous time when he was set free and got ban again in a couple hours. This time he lasts pretty long though.

On topic.

The US is the master in politic. When Pannetta said that line it gives the US many options and she can back Japan or not depending on how Japan behalves and on the situations. China also has to toe her line somewhat for fearing her positions might change. In another word she's totally in control of the situations and pulling the strings from behind the scene and of course you can only do that when you're the only super power around.
