Today at a White House Press briefing Pres. Obama addresses the press about future military modernization and "post war" plans. If anyone wishes feel free to share the video of today's White House conference of the President's address.

I felt this was a very important address it was loaded with blunt talk.


Pres. Obama stated in blunt terms to the world "US will maintain its military superiority".


He said many other things so if someone can post the video here that would be great.

On the news just now, a defence budget cut of $50 billion per year.

An inability to fight 2 wars simultaneously. Instead an ability to fight one war and 'spoil' the other front for the enemy.

Most of the cuts will fall on the ground forces, all the 11 carriers are being kept.

A slow down ( and perhaps termination? ) of the F-35 project.

A physical shift in priority from Europe to the Pacific (ie China).

The beginning of the end of the sole super power?

He did mention phasing out old cold war military systems. US can afford to cut military budget as the Iraq war has pretty much ended. He argued US would instead invest its money more in RD.

There is still on going discussions about another tranche of $500billion worth of cuts. They could end up landing on defence.

That would be an extra $50 billion per year for the next 10 years.

1. USA is cutting down manpower, but enhancing firepower/lethal capability. Obama's speech focuses on Asia-Pacific as if W Asia may get some respite for now.

2. However, USA will need foot soldiers. Soldiers that may not be too technology savvy, too expensive and from nations/societies where life is less expensive than USA. These conditions fit the soldier of India which is now going boom boom with the sky that USA has been promising her.
