Dude I am struggling with reading urdu script and he is reading newspaper, what a inspiration for sure, next goal learning farsi after watching his videos , if I can master urdu by end of this year.

often Pakistanis says proudly and with a smile soory dude I don't know Urdu like they would be awarded on this great achievement

Why do folks do that, Urdu is awesome monsieur/janab eli! does it not feel great to be in sync with your heritage/culture and that something you cannot achieve with english in my humble opinion.

I understand a few words here and there, but I never really cared to learn the whole language.

For 93% Pakistanis Urdu is a foreign language too. Essentially culture is what you adopt, heritage is what you like to accept. It could be english too.

hmmm, I am not sure either about that as urdu or hindi is a flexible langue and it can accumalate different words, specially for farsi langue so I am no sure about that and it is the national lingua franca there based on what my fellow pakistan brothers say on this forum. Also isn't hindi also lingua franca in inde too as most of the teachers are from Luck Now or Hyder-abad! ahaha once I get good at urdu, i will able to speak to nearly 500 million people muahahaha fear me !

On a side question, while it may not be mother tongue most people can understand it atleast more pakistan posters and alot of inde posters can too on this forum in roman alphabets, so does that hold true in real life as far as people being able to understand urdu/hindi in different parts of your country! I find the bollywood movies to be very similar to urdu so it is great for learning words though sadly I do not find it interesting aside from the 1917 adaptation called Dhava das(favorite and only movie I watch)!

Yes, I suppose most indians and pakistanis would have a working knowledge of hindi / urdu. Probably 15-20% indians struggle with it, in pakistan probably that % is lower.

Although most of the pop movies from bollywood are rubbish, could I take the liberty of recommending a classic - pyaasa. If you like it maybe I can provide you more such movies you will like.

Watch Mughal e Azam or Paakezah they have good amount of Urdu.

Main component in Urdu is the Khariboli dialect from Uttar Pradesh, only a North Indian can pronounce the words properly. A Turk or a Persian can't understand Urdu

the national langugae of india should be english with indian accent .. as all u people like to speak english eevn when u r at home or when u r in india or overseas.. whats the obsession with the english language , i have never undesrtood.. in pakistan urdu is understood by pakhtuns punjabis balochs and sindhis and everyother small group everybody undesrtnds it with mybe a small minority who are not able to speak urdu but still they understand it .. while in india south indians dont understand hindi they speak english with other indians,.there was this south indian in my uni who didnt knew how to speak hindi even he had lived in india for his entire life ..

persian can understand urdu ..bro u need to ask any persian on this forum to read urdu and i m pretty sure he will get what we say because the connecting words maybe different but the main words are same in turkish and persian .. for example..main india se nfrat karta hn.. because nafrat is same in turkish andpersian he will get what i say .. on the other hand when people speak slow persian i can get what they mean to say even though i dont understand the connceting words but i can stil figure out
