US takes back Helicopters deployed for Pak – Afghan border security monitoring

So much emotion and drama.
It was Pakistan that exercised the option to return 9 outraged huey helicopters used primarily for narcotics. They were not conbra gunships.
Pakistan will get their replacement. Why the jumping

Good move by Pakistan. It shows that kickback seeking corrupt fatcats aren't running the show any more, Alhamdulillah. Otherwise this would be an ideal scenario to make quick money.

They should consider getting the Ministry of Interior some Leonardo AW139 and Airbus H125m for transport/utility and scout roles. The infrastructure to maintain each is already in place, just add to it.
Since border monitoring was one of the uses of these Helos, drones should be seriously considered as well.

Try doing that your masters in Israel. And I'll seee how long you will survive

Pakistan returned the helis despite being asked to buy them because they might have not seen much utility in them. They kept the Cessna planes that came with these helis. The Pakistani embassy in Washington DC has already been asked to start negotiations for replacements of the helis with America. Most experts agree replacement helis will be released.

People have misinterpreted the whole issue. Per news reports, decision to return the helicopters was made months ago before Trump’s August speech.

People here should realize USA is not the villain here as the obligatory knee-jerk reaction seems to be. It is Pakistan that is in the driving seat with this decision and any potential replacements.

[Edit]: a correction must be made. In this case, it seems that Pakistan was the one who decided to return the helicopters, even after the US asked Pakistan to just buy them.

What in the hell was Pakistan thinking, returning them? From what I can tell, the Americans were practically paying for most of the helicopters themselves, and yet Pakistan STILL refused to buy them. Some one needs to be fired.

On the off chance a US gov official is reading this, which I doubt, I apologize and stand corrected. The fault lies with Pakistan, not the US.

However, the rest of my point about Pakistan developing a domestic industry still holds true. If it can produce helis domestically, than it won't ever have to worry about foreigner suppliers ever again.

===&&===

And then they complain that Pakistan isn't doing enough. How is Pakistan suppose to keep an eye on the border, if you keep crippling their capability to do so?

Still, it gives a good opportunity for Pakistan to further reduce reliance on an unreliable, and increasingly hostile, partner.

I wouldn't be surprised of the US decided to take back the Maxxpros as well, and then complain that Pakistan is taking too long to launch military operations.

This is why a domestic solution is needed. Pakistan should honestly start thinking about JVs with friendly nations, so as to build a domestic industry. The T-129 supply partnership is a good start, but Pakistan needs a proper helicopter industry.
Sir we are using and abusing (over use) these choppers since long time hence not much flying over left then US told us or return their assets and we did the right move since over used, end of service life choppers serve no purpose.

I think the decision was made because of maintenance disputes with the local representative of Bell in Pakistan.

There have been several issues with Aerotron Pvt Ltd over the years, which is the company which provides supports for Bell & Sikorsky helicopters in Pakistan. They have been blacklisted several times and then allowed to work again since we we needed them. They had the complete maintenance contract for the Huey, Bell-412s, for AH-1 Cobra's PA has already had major problems with Aerotron, so it has invested in their maintenance themselves and last year did its first in house AH-1 engine overhaul without Aerotron. Sikorsky Sea Kings are being overhauled by a contractor outside of Pakistan.

The matter is already under discussion in Army section. Why open another thread and that to in airforce section.

They are renegotiating the deal for same helis and it is said that new Pak interior minister pushed for it. It is unfortunate that current Pakistani government lacks plan for everything

Not for the same helicopters. By law, it has to be different helicopters

There is another flip side ,The Huey are vietnam era helicopter with little or poor armour against incoming fires also I believe with the fence in process and check posts on Afghan side plus UAV the cost can be better utilized ,perhaps a wise decision to let go 15 year platform
