US takes back Helicopters deployed for Pak – Afghan border security monitoring

. . .
Helicopters actually make Pakistan Do Less. Hence US take away helicopters.

.
After reading through the thread and the news reports, this is my take on this matter

1. Irrespective of what the contract stipulated, these helis are almost 20 years old, so they are at the end of their shelf life. I think it is better to have them returned instead of spending more money on them.
2. Alot of the members have commented of using drones instead, i agree with them but drones have limitations which can only be filled by helis, like quick troop movement, equipment transportation, and rescue/evacuation missions, so a few helis would still be needed.

.
Sir we are using and abusing (over use) these choppers since long time hence not much flying over left then US told us or return their assets and we did the right move since over used, end of service life choppers serve no purpose.
They would have obviously gone through life extension upgrades, so I don't buy that excuse.

It is time to set up a JV with TAI to establish a serious helicopter industry since The variety of big scale projects in the hand of TAI has reached to red-alert level so I think Under secretariat of Defence Industry and TAI's individual funds may not be enough to support all those developments without any delay for serial production so TAI will most probably bring partnership offers to friend states to support some of Turkish strategic projects. Win-win partnership deal on a helicopter program will be beneficial for both country...

pak armed forces can either can to buy off the shelf or help develop local economy given its perpetual huge miltery arms requirement
i think we will need a very light, medium helicopter as Huey are not going to stay for ever, same is true for pumas and bell, pakistan has easily a requirement for 150+, so instead buying the AW 139 in small batches for next 10 years till we have 100+, better do a JV and built them at home, the cost might be a bit higher but at leats all the money goes back into your economy, who knows it might be even an export success like the mushaq, mushaq became an export sucess in a very saturated market

barely a billion dollars
Pakistan spent 30X times more(30 billion dollars in last 15 years) in just maintaining a troop level of 100,000 of western boarders which would not have been the case had there been no conflict in Afghanistan, now we did got some reimbursement of purely military operation cost(round 10 billion dollars or 1/3) and some economical aid(around 5-7 billion dollars most went back to USA via NGOs) over last 20 years

i am not counting the cost of life, property and to the economy

by comparison US provided aid worth 250 billion dollars to Afghanistan and spent over 1 trillion dollars in military spending

usefulness of small helicopters in Urban combat.

They are renegotiating the deal for same helis and it is said that new Pak interior minister pushed for it. It is unfortunate that current Pakistani government lacks plan for everything
Its the internal conflicts between departments, not lack of plan.
