The only evidence we have so far is what was provided by the Russians.
And according to them the plan was being shadowed by an Su-25, and most probably was shot down by an Air-Air missile launched from that aircraft.

Yes, an aircraft which has a very limited service ceiling (5-7000 m) seems perfect for shooting down
an aircraft at 10-12000 m. .

According to Aviation Week, someone from Russia changed the "maximum ceiling" of the Su-25 Wiki entry to 33000 feet, the same day as Russia provided "evidence".

Sukhoi's own web page limit the ceiling to 7000 m (23000 feet) clean, and 5000 m with max payload.

I am sure pilots on PDF can comment on the viability of flying at 10,000 m without a pressurized cabin.

Normal loaded altitude 5000 m, and without arnament 7000 m, so on top of the separating distance
the missile must climb 3-5000 m.
The warhead (again according to Aviation Week) is 3kg, which they deem is unlikely to bring down a 777.

Stinger has max altitude of 4800 m. Commercial jets cruise at 10000 m plus, more like 12000 m. The altitude alone is more than the slant range of stinger.

US stinger was fired from mig25- the pilot ejected and fired it- highly probable- -
