Zachary Boyd, 19, was asleep when enemy fighters attacked his base in the Korengal Valley in Kunar province.

He had enough time to put on is helmet and body armour but had to dispense with his uniform before joining his comrades in manning their bunker.

Unfortunately, the resulting unorthodox approach to battle camouflage - pink "I love NY" underwear and a bright red T-shirt - was captured by an Associated Press photographer.

Army Specialist Boyd phoned home to warn his family in Texas that the photo was about to appear on the front page of the New York Times.

"It was typical. He has always been an interesting little character," said his mother, Sheree.

"He said: 'I hear the Times is what they put on the president's desk'," she said.

"Then he told us: 'I may not have a job anymore after the president has seen me out of uniform'."

PS: MODS please move to an appropriate section if this does not suit the spirit of this section. I found it really hilarious, almost fell out of my chair. No actually I did fell off.:bounce:

What I dig is the red t-shirt and the guy to his immediate right is wearing track shoes.

Fcuk it. All in a day's work...

US ARMY is not serious in WAR :undecided:

I think they are slowly adopting talaban life style , mostly talaban wear track shoes . Army uniform should be redesiged suitable for Afghanistan weather condition.

I don't think you understand......he was probably off duty sleeping or eating. There was a contact and he grabbed his body armour and weapon and ran to where he needed to be.

Frankly he should consider one thing though, If I was the enemy I would be glad of the bright pink target.....He could were blue or something

The boxers are in defilade. The RED t-shirt isn't.

The enemy might see that. Seeing that, they might also then see the camera lens reflection of the guy standing behind them taking the photo. My guess from the photo is that the photographer is likely the MOST vulnerable standing behind them.

Depends.. unless he is using a Telephoto Lens which all journalists carry to capture portrait images from a reasonable distance. Also the Cameraman could be in a higher position but still safe and use the Camera's live viewfinder :D

You hav to have ' served' in the uniform to understand the response of a soldier. frankly I do not find anything funny.

On mobilisation , it does not matter if crews / soldiers are in their underpants or otherwise so long as their rounds have the desired ( & trained ) effect.

as rgds the colour of the garments worn, its a pers choice.. who cares so long as the bullets hit their mark.
