US scientists boycott Nasa conference over China ban

More of that! Institutionalized thievery has no place among honest researchers!
Don't forget Yankee, 3/4 ofUS Physics Team that won 5 medals (3 golds by Chinese with 2 silvers, 1 Chinese and 1 White).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
College Park, MD, July 14, 2013—The top US physics students scored three gold medals and two silver medals at the 44th International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), held this year from July 7 - 15 in Copenhagen Denmark where the best high school physics students from 83 countries competed.

China and Korea tied for first place with 5 gold medals, Russia and Singapore earned 4 gold medals and one silver medal, and the USA, Thailand, and Taiwan tied with 3 gold and 2 silver medals. US Team member, Calvin Huang earned the highest score in the experimental portion of the competition.

The participants representing the 2013 US Physics Team were:

Jeffrey Cai - Silver, Ridge High School, Basking Ridge, NJ
Calvin Huang - Gold, 8th overall, Gunn High School, Palo Alto, CA

Jeffrey Yan – Gold, 24th overall, Palo Alto High School, Palo Alto, CA
Samuel Zbarsky - Silver, Montgomery Blair High School, Rockville, MD
Kevin Zhou – Gold, 5th overall, High Technology High School, Lincroft, NJ

"AAPT is proud to lead the selection process that identifies such exceptional student scholars. Their outstanding performance in this international competition is a reflection of the work of their coaches, the entire 2013 Physics Team, the support of their families, and the best of physics education,” said Dr. Beth A. Cunningham, Executive Officer of the American Association of Physics Teachers.

U.S. Physics Team Selection
AAPT is responsible for recruiting, selecting and training the U.S. Physics Team each year to compete in the IPHO Competition. This selection process begins in early January when high schools register their students to participate in the Fnet=ma exam. Approximately 300 top scorers on this first test will advance to the Semifinal round of competition.

A second exam is used as the basis for selection of the 20 members of the U.S. Physics Team. In May these students traveled from schools all over the United States, to the University of Maryland-College Park for the U.S. Physics Team Training Camp. There, they engaged in nine days of intense studying, mystery lab, daily exams, and problem solving.

At the end of that training camp, five students and an alternate were selected as the "Traveling Team" to represent the United States at the IPhO. In July, the Traveling Team and their coaches attended a three day Mini Camp of intense laboratory work before moving on to the IPhO.

Personal profiles and nationalities are two different thing. Nationalities and demographic breakdown are compiled by schools, companies and even govt. Who are you trying to fool? We are not your average indians in India.

It doesn't matter what you think or believe, it is the facts and figures that count. NASA had spoken. Even The Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) stated, "no more than ten per cent of the physicians in US maybe of Indian-origin – and that includes Indian-Americans "

There are not that many Indians in top US school. It's another one of those Indian fantasy.

As I said before you live in your CPC world. Good for you.

Did it not? By sitting on knowledge, and not letting anyone have a peek at it? :D
You cannot confine the criticism of US to just this one event. It may be misguided, but national security is a valid concern. So the accusation is that by just this one time, the US is somehow 'impeding' science. That is a hoot.

Could the simple microwave oven came from either the Soviet Union or China? No.

Could heavier than air and powered flight? No.

How many more questions can I bring to the table?

The US 'impeding' science? Yah...That deserve laughter.

@Audio

Most Chinese researchers are honest, or at least as honest as their American counterparts. They are simple researchers and nothing else.

You do realize espionage is not done by scientists, but by spies. Stopping a few students and what not is not going to help. Most spies don't need the front door.

I know, but then you have Chinese "tourists" crawling below western APC's at defense expo's just to take a snapshot of the undercarriage. You can bet there was a "tourist" or two of that kind in the posse that was denied entry.

get this into your dumb head this is more about politics than anything else

LOL, right. Institutionalized thievery influenced policy. At least progress is happening, no?

It is the truth. If the US allows science to collaborate naturally, today we would be going to Mars a long time ago. Just imagine the collaborate between USA, China, EURO, and Russia.
There is no way -- ABSOLUTELY NONE -- you can prove that.

The Soviet Union and your China in the same era have every scientific discovery and achievements as potential military advantages FIRST before any other considerations. The result was that for the entire era of the Cold War, the US led the world in scientific advances while your China begged and borrowed.

Now you are pathetically rewriting history to make your China look the victim.

LOL @ retard do you think the us will disclose their top secrete in that conference and if we need to steal we can easily get some one else to do it for us no?

My American friend, the main reason we haven't go to Mars is because of funding and lack of global collaboration such as ISS.

The US does the same thing, utilizing space technology for military first before it is used for commercial purpose. Are you ******* stupid to not realize that GPS satellite was invented for military purpose before it was used for commercial purpose?

Nope, my American friend. We made some past mistake regarding our own development of the past but today it is different. The cold war mentality of the US, their ideological war, is backward and has no place in modern era of 21st century.

It doesn't matter if they'll disclose top secret or not. All that matters is that thievery has reached such a level that even political correctness and common courtesy can't get Chinese nationals into the conference.

That's the gist of it, kid. You can probably expect more of the same in other fields. About time i say.

What came out of your Vietnam?

Yeah...The Space Shuttle was armed to the proverbial teeth. The Apollo astronauts planted IEDs on the Moon to prevent others from landing. Every US satellite is an orbital bomb.

We have no obligations to collaborate with China in any way, not even morally, so take your pathetic victimhood elsewhere.

What came out of your Vietnam?
Nothing of worth, thanks to communism.

Do you know how much money Chinese intelligence agencies get? How do you know that the tourist was not the distraction to make people think that was how we do things. Do you know how useless a photo is? Do you know even a small software application could have 100 pages of documentation to help support.

Do you know how much training a company has to give to a new employee for the person to be able to support a program?

Now do you know how useless a photo or even a photocopy of the blueprint would be. When the target is the world's most advanced technology.

a hundred million is a lot of money, but for a country like China, and for espionage activities, it is like 5 bucks you and I.

Do you know how many blueprints we can get, how many doors that can open?

China has been the masters at spying for a really long time and we are no stranger to bribes. Tell me, how does "stopping" a few of our students going to help?

Who is 'we'?

Sorry, you're not an American no matter how hard you try to convince everyone. You will always remain a Vietnamese, so stop trying to argue with us by living off the success of America. Compare your Vietnam with us.

Nationalism and science do not mix well. Let's leave that to the politicians shall we?
