No, because the sources you provided were about pakistani mercenaries in 1973 war, not about what I asked for. Please tell me which of those sources claims that PAF met IAF at the border and chased them away when they tried to strike pakistani nukes. Your own sources, the ones you provided, say clearly that such an attack was not put into action because pakistani nukes were well dispersed.

Coming to the topic at hand, it seems that the threats being made this time are actually more serious than the past. It may be a scare tactic or negotiating tactic, but this time they have backed it up with credible projection of force. USA has stationed three carrier battle groups at striking distance from Iran, and the air wing of any one carrier can easily overwhelm IrAF. We are talking about nimitz class supercarriers, each with close to a hundred state of the art super hornets and HUGE aewac/sigint/elint capabilities.

Let us wait and watch what happens.

However, judging from Israel's past behavior in Iraq and now the plans to strike Iran, it makes one lean towards the argument that yes Israel might indeed have attempted this. But like I said, it cant be proved right or wrong by any source since one that is acceptable to me wont be acceptable to you and vice versa.

Important thing is that, PAF was prepared for such an attempt. Which is basically the same fear in Iran only difference is that this time outcome is going to be public than secret or controversial.

Yes, but in this case, Iran probably won't use it's air force. It will use it's naval capabilities. Sure, F-18s can knock down missiles from Iran, but what if this happens.

Suppose there is 500 missiles in Iran's stockpile specifically only to knock down the carriers. Iran launches 100 missiles at 1 carrier. US has 20 F-18s in the air, those 20 F-18s knock down 50 of those missiles. Where does the rest of the remaining 50 missiles go? They hit the carrier. Like that Iran can easily defeat the US navy in the strait and keep on stocking up if needed.

Well since neither of us (presumably) are experts in naval warfare, I don't think we can go into details of a tactical scenario. I don't know how USA will carry out attacks, or how Iran plans to thwart such attacks. I can only give a general answer to that.

First off, how exactly would Iran accurately target a moving carrier in thousands of square miles of sea? If it was so easy to overwhelm a carrier and bring it down with missiles, it would have happened long ago, wouldnt it? Iran can't use satellites to monitor or track carriers, and USA's immense carrier battle groups will make sure that nothing that can track or monitor them will come anywhere within range.

Its not just F-18s in the air that knock down incoming missiles. There are anti-air frigates, close in weapons systems (like phalanx) etc that do that job. And that is even assuming that Iran can in fact locate and target these ships in the first place. Hitting a moving ship on the sea (think of the ship's surface area in comparison to the ocean's) is no child's play, and requires spying support from satellites or spy planes or drones that can silently monitor the ships continously.

Also, the carriers are not there to knock down iranian missiles (though they could do that too). They would be used to launch attacks against iraninan missile facilities and command and control centres and leave them paralysed.

Yeah, you are right. It could have been saved. My mistake that I didn't know I had to spoon feed you.

Any nuclear armed country's maximum security is on its nuclear arsenal, I hope I don't have to provide you sources for that simple fact. Knowing Israel, Pakistan was prepared to face that challenge if presented. Its something, a person with common sense can agree upon.
