The United States is set to boost its security and intelligence cooperation with Pakistan to step up its offensive against Islamist militants, Secretary of State John Kerry said Tuesday.

“I emphasised that the US is committed to deepening our security relationship with Pakistan in order to eliminate threats in the border area and elsewhere,” Kerry told reporters.

He was addressing a joint press conference with Pakistan’s national security advisor Sartaj Aziz as the two countries held strategic talks on the direction of future ties.

In the wake of last month’s Taliban attack on a Peshawar school which killed 150 people, mostly children, Pakistan has moved against militant groups sheltering in its unruly tribal areas.

“The tragedy of December 16 is really a reminder of the serious risk of allowing extremists to find space, and be able to command that space and operate within it,” Kerry said.

He said all militant groups such as the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban, the Haqqani network and Lashkar-e-Taiba “continue to pose a threat not just to Pakistan and its neighbours but also to the United States and the world.”

“Make no mistake the task is a difficult one and it is not done,” Kerry said.

“We all have a responsibility to ensure that these extremists are no longer able to secure a foothold in this country or elsewhere.”

He said he was deeply concerned by recent violence on the disputed border between Pakistan and India and called on the neighbours to find a diplomatic solution.

“We continue to be deeply concerned by the recent spate of increased violence along the working boundary and the line of control,” Kerry said in Islamabad after visiting India over the weekend.

“It is profoundly in the interests of Pakistan and India to move this relationship forward,” he said.

The US Secretary of State also met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Raheel Sharif at General Headquarters (GHQ) and discussed matters pertaining to regional security especially in the context of Pakistan’s ongoing military offensive in tribal areas.

He was presented a guard of honour on his arrival at the military headquarters.

Pakistani officials have said that Kerry plans to visit Peshawar in a huge show of support for the people there.

But there has been no State Department confirmation of Kerry’s trip to the insurgency-wracked city, which would be the first by a high-ranking American official since Speaker John Boehner went in 2011.

I object to his statement : "“It is profoundly in the interests of Pakistan and India to move this relationship forward,” he said." hahahahaha They have never ever been serious to the Indo Pak issues instead they always created problems, from the sub continent days till now these British and Americans have always showed cleverness by creating differences between Indo Pak and taking advantage of their fights by taking hold of their lands or making them their slaves!

But salute to the army generals ( eg Gen Musharraf) who never let that thing happen and always stood up for justice and stood up against American ideas and let the Indian be their allies :)

Pakistan should have insisted on removing Lashkar-e-Taiba name from the press conference other wise should have refused for a joint press conference because

1) Lashkar-e-Taiba has never done anything to harm US or its interests nor is Lashkar-e-Taiba involved in attacking US. It is just done to please India which should be unacceptable to us in all forms what so ever.

2) India is actively supporting TTP and Baloch insurgents, if US needs to bring the name of Lashkar to please its new found love, than Pakistan should had insisted on equally mentioning India's role in terrorism inside Pakistan.

Kerry: “We all have a responsibility to ensure that these extremists are no longer able to secure a foothold in this country or elsewhere.”

Kerry's a blind fool. The extremists have much, much more than a foothold in Pakistan. The whole damned country is infested with the vermin and they occupy and govern whole regions of Pakistan. Who's the fool advising the fool?

How much did Pak hit the U.S. for this time?

Get a life you moron.
