A war is unpractical right now, Obama wants to have a legacy in inhibiting war throughout his presidency. Or thats what I'm getting from the Democratic view point .. ala CNBC, CNN, MSNBC...

Yes, did you watch last night's show in the Kelly File last night? It was all about Benghazi and the US sailor detainment. Interesting discussion. :)

Humiliation, indeed. This is very , very surprising for me to see, as a former JMSDF officer, myself.

Absolutely humiliating! That female detainee even had to wear a hijab on her head, hadn't she?

Absolutely!

Seeing pictures of our American allies kneeling like that, its just very symbolic for me. It erodes the confidence on American ability to protect their own soldiers. How could these 2 rcbs be allowed to operate so far away from a US frigate or destroyer. Anyways, just something we just have to consider when looking at the larger strategic picture....

What do you suppose the US Navy do? Fight with 9 man and 1 woman against 3 Iranian Patrol boat??

My source in the USN tell me that this is highly likely an individual incident, some sort of GPS calibration problem, and the Ribs was drifted into the Iranian territories. They are forward deployed craft, which mean they are going to operate outside the primary weapon range of any US surface ship.

This incident is solved almost immediately. And that is to the credit of both country.

Oh, my God, you are comparing Japanese to Americans in matters of honor. :D That is like comparing lions with hyenas.

On a more serious note, Americans live for the moment and by next week have forgotten about it all. The real message from this incident was for American puppets in the region who hide behind American skirt and taunt Iran. They got really shocked and are going to have sleepless nights as the skirt is down now.

I thought about that incident , my friend. What would i do if i was in charge of those two boats. Or for that matter, what would other JMSDF officers do? We would not surrender, most likely, we would fight to death.

Anyways, situations like this happens all the time when Japanese coast guard or Japanese naval ships (patrol boats) engage in interdiction duties near South Korea and North Korea. If ever we engage North Korean vessels, we usually neutralize them (as in kill everyone who resists and tries to fight back) , then sink their vessels.

Well, these are Americans. But for me the lowest point is not even that. It is when the American Captain apologizes to Iran. Can you imagine? I mean as per US military code of conduct, they are under orders to give only name, rank and unit and then shut up. But this guy was talking like a parrot and was so happy on camera and for all the attention. It seemed like they had a good time and thought they were on some picnic or something.

That was hilarious.

Well it's not like we expect IJA Banzai charge or PLA human wave kind of spirit from them, they are Americans.

Fighting till death in war is honorable, or in this minor border infringement case, surrender when being outgunned is still acceptable. But kneeling? Apology? They are soldiers, should know very well how such compromises will disgrace themselves, or worse disgracing the flag they wear on shoulders.

By setting red lines, the CO should be the 1st to defend honour of his team, his nation, with his own life, sacrifice if need to. He fails, others fall in one by one until the last man. The opponent may interrogate them, torture them, but unlikely to execute anyone, no one wants unnecessary escalation of this incident.

What's the problem with kneeling or surrender, they are Americans for pete's sake they value their soldiers lives more than any Arm forces in the world.

if they are at war with Iran then that's different story. Take note also the Americans never enter the war when they are on disadvantage.

I don't question the US military's ability, bro, I do question the capabilities of the current administration in the US right now. Excellent analysis also on the CO's compliance and unprofessionalism.

Yes bro, you got it down!

@Serpentine @SALMAN AL-FARSI @Daneshmand , brothers, is there any Iranian press explanation in this situation? What was the cause? Seems like this was an inhibited issue in the press here in the US. There's also not much information on this in Japanese media, perhaps you can shed some light for me?

Thanks, guys.
They accidentally entered the Iranian territorial waters.

They accidentally entered the Iranian territorial waters.

At least the Iranian brothers treated them with mercy and humanitarianism, unlike the Takfiri Daesh, who would just decapitate or burn prisoners of war. At least our IRIN brothers abided by international law according to the rules of war.
