Here is what the usa spent on the military as % of gdp and did not collapse as a result.
The Soviet Union fell because of Moscow's inactions, if Beijing did not thing about terrorism in Xinjiang, let the protesters and rioters in HK take over Hong Kong, let Taiwan be occupied with 100K usa goon troops, let the student protestors at Tienanmen Square get out of hand and take over Beijing, then yes... China would have followed the path of the Soviet Union in allowing their own collapse and not cracking down on dissent. Soviet Union did not collapse from Afghanistan or big budget or debt. Soviet Union fell from cia plots that ate away at the authority in Moscow.
If China lets terrorists and rioters and secessionists do what these individuals want to do, then China is on the path of the collapse of the Soviet Union.
