US Navy Chief : U.S. Cannot Outspend China, Must Use Allies To Counter

Here is what the usa spent on the military as % of gdp and did not collapse as a result.

The Soviet Union fell because of Moscow's inactions, if Beijing did not thing about terrorism in Xinjiang, let the protesters and rioters in HK take over Hong Kong, let Taiwan be occupied with 100K usa goon troops, let the student protestors at Tienanmen Square get out of hand and take over Beijing, then yes... China would have followed the path of the Soviet Union in allowing their own collapse and not cracking down on dissent. Soviet Union did not collapse from Afghanistan or big budget or debt. Soviet Union fell from cia plots that ate away at the authority in Moscow.

If China lets terrorists and rioters and secessionists do what these individuals want to do, then China is on the path of the collapse of the Soviet Union.

How long can China keep holding? After awhile it will have to give way.
That's the big question.

Now think, any country with foreign debts will add pressure to its currency, why there is an anti-physics scenario on this planet? For example, why can't Greece issue unlimited fed debt denominated in their own currency? Just think again, I'm sure you will find out the answer.

So, when China will let go all dollar holdings? I don't know. Till this moment, a strong Dollar isn't a bad thing, but who knows right?

US Navy Chief : U.S. Cannot Outspend China, Must Use Allies To Counter

While visiting India last week, the U.S. Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) said the U.S. must work with allies and partners to counter China’s growing military capabilities because it cannot outspend China.

In response to an Indian media conference call asking about how the U.S. will address China’s increasing military capabilities and potential in the region, CNO Adm. Mike Gilday on Oct. 12 said the key is focusing on asymmetric advantages of allies and partners.

“So the key piece here is allies and partners, right? And so we are not going to outspend China. And so where do we focus on key capabilities that we think are most important as a nation, number one. And so I don’t want to get into specifics on where those investments are, but it’s focused investments that we have to be concerned about ourselves to make sure that our own national interests are sufficiently protected,” he told reporters.

“But secondly, the real asymmetric advantage – and I want to underscore asymmetric advantage – that the United States has is with its partners and allies, not only in the region and globally, but India is a supreme example of that, of a partner that we have common interests…and that in a tangible way our navies can come together to protect those interests, and to cover down on gaps that we each might have in capabilities in order to make us stronger against not just one particular nation, but anybody that wants to interrupt a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Gilday continued.

The CNO argued that since World War II and the post-war international framework, navies have been a major part of maintaining security on the seas.

“And that security has led to prosperity for billions. You know, I like to say that the global economy floats on seawater. And so the Indian Ocean I just talked about with factors and figures of the importance of it to everybody, not just – not just to the United States, not just India, not just the people of New Delhi or Washington, D.C., but around the globe.”

Gilday participated in the media call during a five day trip to India where he met with Indian government and navy officials.

Separately, he hosted 12 Indian Navy officers aboard the USS Carl Vinson on Oct. 14 during the MALABAR Phase II Exercise. Visitors included Indian Chief of Naval Staff Adm. Karambir Singh and, Commander in Chief, Eastern Naval Command, Vice Adm. A.B. Singh.

Translation: allies need to be sacrificial goats against China!

Yes I'm well aware of gold reserve status globally, and well aware of the fact that China is the world's largest gold producer, but all become irrelevant compared to magnitude of US fed debt, and more importantly severe depth of net international position (liabilities).
.

You are absolutely right, USSR crumbled on its own weight. No one should spend beyond their financial capacity. From financial perspective China is running surpluses (and a net creditor) in all accounts, current & capital, private & public, thanks to a low defence spend of ~1.25% of GDP, almost can be labelled "Pacifist" by this indicator. Financially speaking, China can increase spend easily, but other priorities like education & health win the cake. Well on the US side I have no opinion, numbers speak for themselves. China, and RMB, can sustain current situation if not only getting better, the question is, can US?

Good explanation in following article:

Your perspective of Chinese surplus is also covered in it.

To put it in simplest terms, American books and economic realities check out differently from that of many countries due to how USD is globally floated and utilized. It is puzzling economic system.

It works nevertheless.

.
It is puzzling economic system.
Puzzling indeed, perhaps the greatest puzzle ever, not even Ponzi Scheme can explain.

And regarding the books, there are far more puzzling things to look at other than foreign debts (which in physics law drives down currency exchange rate), i.e. future monies owed to American citizens, or unfunded liabilities. Seems like in US, defence spending always champs all? I hope ordinary Americans, including servicemen of the world's most lavish military, get their rightful monies as promised. And more importantly, the monies has same purchasing power as they have expected. Fellow forumers can look it up yourselves.

USSR failed to build a reliable eco-system among it’s allies. Look at Syria it came last minute to do anything after basically the country was lost.

I feel China is some what different but in respect with Pakistan. It needs to start building counter weights in the region and arm them to the teeth so they themselves can match peer rivals. It’s what the Americans did to check mate enemy states.
USSR had 16 Soviet Socialist Republics (SSR) in total. It had significant amount of geography, population and natural resources. It was a juggernaut on paper.

Excessive communism and centralization is not a viable system, however. Soviet government craved absolute control over Soviet internal realities and there was much less emphasis on internal human development. The outcome was a militaristic security state with limited innovation and contribution to global productivity.

To make it worse, USSR took Reagon's Star Wars PSYOPS bait.

China contributes to security calculus of both Pakistan and DPRK but this might not be enough. China need more security-focused allies in the region but it has SCS entanglements.

Pakistan and DPRK have their respective limits and considerations as well.

This world really needs to focus on human development and productivity but humans are insecure in the end. Therefore.

Look up the digital yuan.

And which nation is willing to die to maintain US supremacy around the world?

Good ol' US military creating tension so more tax payer money could be spent on their war machine

American debt obligations are different in nature from that of many countries. For perspective, American Treasury Bonds are offered to potential investors around the world to generate revenue. This mechanism shapes American external debt obligations and records accordingly. As I pointed out in my previous post, American books will check out differently in comparison to many countries due to how USD is globally circulated and utilized. The system works though - it simply defy traditional perceptions of economy in which net surplus is the only indicator of a flourishing economy. This is misleading as well. Economic realities should be viewed in the context of inflows and outflows and how things can be balanced and obligations can be fulfilled. Economic realities are increasingly complex with 50 shades of grey.

To me, American spending on its health sector is most puzzling. US spends so much on this sector but American health system is not what it should be.
