A top American defence official and the head of India’s DRDO have discussed ways to take bilateral defence cooperation towards the goal of joint development and production of military gear. US Deputy Secretary of Defence Ash Carter and DRDO chief Avinash Chander also held talks on measures to deepen the defence trade relationship between the two countries.

“The two leaders discussed how to deepen US-Indian defence trade relationship, and exchanged views on a range of efforts currently underway to move bilateral defence cooperation further toward the mutually agreed-upon goal of a relationship based around co-development and co-production,” a senior defence official said.

Carter and Chander met at the Pentagon yesterday. Indian Ambassador to the US Nirupama Rao and Vikram Singh, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for South and Southeast Asia, also participated in the meeting. Carter and Chander noted that they looked forward to the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Washington.

Uh oh, Russia isn't gonna like this...

We are not some one's puppy. We will decide whats best for our national interests. FYI US and Russia are no longer enemies. Their relations are a bit strained and that's all.

Russia is our friend , They are not our dictators pretending as our friend .

Sure, but that still doesn't mean they'll be happy about this. The cold war may be over, but Russia and the US still don't trust each other.

Well, considering that Russia still isn't happy about India choosing the Rafale over a Russian fighter (like India traditionally did), Russia is going to view this as India moving towards US and EU, and abandoning Russia.

Also, with the NSA and Snowden, not to mention Syria and Iran issues, Russia/US relations are the worst they've been in a long time. Russia and US may not be allies, but they're not friendly and in some cases are still downright hostile towards each other.

One contract doesn't mean anything look at the current orders we have given to Russia.

But it has nothing to do with India. Both Russia and US view each other as competitors in Indian defence market and nothing more. US gets some deals, Russia gets some and Israel/France gets some.

Our defence needs are not met by keeping Russia happy.

Russia is biggest defence partner of india.(30 billion fgfa, 2 billion for mil 17, 2 billion for tank ammunition and spare, and other defence items)

They now know the fact that we are looking for west . MRCA is best example of this . Russia had encouraged to have a combo of western technology on their products . Now there is no monopoly .

No, but it is evident you are itching for a dictator in a friend, hence the coziness to the dictator ala friend of all.

If only things were this simple.

From 'the only' to 'the biggest' to 'the'. It's just a matter of time, and Russia will not be happy.
