US grooming India to annoy China, Pakistan’

India was not a communist but a socialist country and even today socialism is alive in Indian politics!

Non alignment imho is nothing but a big joke. India was a major Sovjet ally in almost all major events during the cold war.
Nehru chose not to condemn Sovjets in Budapest in 1956, or in Prague, indeed supported Sovjets in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
India was one of the very few non communist countries not to boycot Moscow 1980 Olympics.

Your words sound very similar to what Vajpayee spoke in the parliament!!!:woot:

India's navy is not large enough to protect its waters and contain Pakistan's navy AND seal off the Malacca strait. This scenario also ignores the rapidly improving navies of Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore who can also call upon close airsupport from land bases.

India needs 4 aircraft carriers with capacity for 20 planes each before it can start doing all this. (along with the requisite support group.)
only 20 planes each???? wow tats a tiny carrier...... if varyag ever go into service with china then one chinese carrier fleet=3 indian carrier fleet.... lol

I thought India was building only one and buying another from Russia, the one aircraft it has already doesnt seem to be very capable.

How many aircraft will the new one which is being built be able to carry, what is its tonnage. There doenst seem to be much info on the net, when will it be ready.

Three will not be enough Bull because one will always be in training/repairs which leaves two which must be deployed on the Arabian Sea against Pakistan's navy. It can be seen that if there was another one (total 4), that could patrol near the Malacca straits.
building a carrier??? (i beg ur pardon) since when did those indian learn to design and build ships???
D Talwar- russia
D Delhi- russia
S 55 Sindhu Ghosh- russia
S 44 Shishumar- germany
etc.........

Hi Bull,

I pray that there is nothing nasty. It is just that when two dogs meet for the first time they just want to sniff each other so that they know where they stand. That is all. Also it gives me a directive as to how to direct my conversation.

varyag??? can u shed more light on it

The ADS being constructed in Cochin, will carry 30 odd aircrafts with 12 on top and 17 in the hangar below.

INS viraat in service also has capacity for 30 aircrafts.

INS vikramdaitya with a tonnage slightly more than the above one, should also be able to carry same number of aircrafts

Bull,

What options do you have regarding Awacs for those AC Carriers.
Has IN shortlisted any systems yet?

I think since IN operates the jump takeoff aircraft carriers, other than fighter ACs anyother sort of ACs wud be able to use it.

IN operates the kamov(ka-31) aerobrone early warning helis in these airraft carriers.

It can target aircrafts at a range of 110km and ships at a range of 200kms and can target a total of 20 targets at the same time.

Mar 2005.

NEW DELHI: After weighing the pros and cons for over a year, the Navy has decided to turn down the US offer of six E-2C Hawkeye 2000 carrier-borne early warning aircraft.

Feb 2006.

New Delhi, February 1: The Navy's effort to purchase American E-2C Hawkeye carrier-based early warning aircraft collapsed recently for technical reasons, but so strong is the force's need for such a capability that it has decided to compromise and explore operating the aircraft from shore-based airfields.

I don't think we need any grooming from anyone. We buy our defense equipment on cash meaning that we tend to use it the way we are guided by our own doctrines. There's no free-bees involved here that would accompany "grooming".

It is really nice of US to offer us weapon systems, but that is pure business just as it is with France, UK or any other country. We might not control the entire Indian Ocean today, but I don't think we need to do that without attending to the matters that are most important right now: managing the 1/3rd ocean that we command and protect any trade ships that pass through this region.

I don't understand why we're being seen as aggressors and being so whistled about. PLAN is developing at twice our speed and no one gives a single whistle for them. We're merely trying to replace our old equipment, and yes--continue expanding.

Mastan Khan is on the money with this - Indians are not stupid, they will sell UNKIL in the bazaar a dozen times over before UNKIL even suspects what going on -- and lets face it, why not, after all why should Indian be involved in hostile attitudes towards China - I realize there is a section of opion in India and among Indians in the US that is very keen to see such a eventuality, but Indian is too cleaver for this tamasha, he has his own tamasha - so long as the US policy makers can be kept reasonably satisfied without any actual hostility with China, capital and market access is assured and anyway just look at the numbers with regard to India-China trade, this number can easily double and double again - can US match that with weapons sales?

India isn't going to protect American interests anywhere unless it is in her own's interests. If the USA and China have a military stand-off over Taiwan and India is completely out of the picture - the Indian leaders would espouse the values of Gandhi and Buddha and keep out of it. They would get involved if say China makes a beeline for Nepal or Bhutan because of Indian interests there. Even now, the American would love Indian troops in Iraq - cheaper lives after all. But why would India want to get involved in something in which it has no stake?
