US destroyer sails near artificial Chinese island in South China Sea

Another one of america's useless warning? Lol. How many times did they gave warnings, i'm guessing at least a hundred times already. Impressive, they truly are the sole superpower when it comes to giving warnings.
Difference is it also destroys one nation after another, so when US gives warning world takes note.
Unlike chinese who are stripped naked even by tiny Bhutan if warned.

The act of cutting the Chinese melon has started...

USA, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam, South Korea & Japan have come to an agreement on this.

Lol Indian talk about cutting melon, since when Indian Navy come close to 12 nautical miles, you guys are just feeling so insecure about Dorklam that your FM is begging US for help...that is the best you worthless Indians can do

Yes.
China is not defending a 12 mile territorial zone around these artificial islands.
This is implicitly admitting that it not part of China's territorial waters.

When a thief come to your house does it imply that you lost your property? Maybe your country and your government are that type of people willingly accept as such...it's good for you and we encourage that . US just think they have bigger gun and only dare to make such gesture with overwhelming superiority, at equal parity US will certain have ship confiscated by China...China will certainly rewrite the rule of the sea.

Let's see how China reacts when each of these countries would poke China from different directions.

India certainly will be a good one to entertain China, we already rule Indian Ocean as India lamentably cries over Sri Lanka shoulder when we dock out sub...we poke India like we fart and Indian Navy can only mumbling...LMAO

Calling bluffs on all front could be dangerous. Its not a good idea to corner a dog, as it becomes most dangerous at that moment. An embarrassed and frustrated China could do something reckless either in SCS, at Indo-China border or in Afghanistan.

How you corner China? you Indians are just pathetic loser begging for help and hallucinate for an alien force to intervene at India's favor...LMAO. Which China's rise we will certain have a lot to offer and you can cry any time you want.

First. Chinese claim is not recognized by anybody. And as such, Chinese sovereignty does not exist in the sc sea.

Second. US defense treaty only covers the mainland of the Philippines. That stands in contrast to the Japanese islands which are covered by the bilateral US/JP treaty.

So you can push the "like" button on my post.

Do we care if you recognized or not, we're permanently there in SCS and you Viets are so hopeless to witness the reality, nothing you can do about it beside protest.

As far as i see China clearly intends to buy out the ASIAN countries with money one hand and military threat on the other hand to gain full control in SCS . Classic carrot and stick approach by china which ASIAN will fall in line sooner or later though it's violation of international norms .

Philipines has already given up to China while Vietnam is the most strident opposition . As long as there would be balancing combined interests of US , Japan , India , Australia resolved to taken on China the ASIAN countries would have to have heart to fight for their claims over SCS , otherwise china will usurp SCS for herself.

If I use Indian's word, only talk no action , what US, Japan, India and Australia can do in SCS, we have already reclaim those Islands and permanently settle there, have they the guts to use military force or slap sanction on China...pathetic isn't it?

Difference is it also destroys one nation after another, so when US gives warning world takes note.
Unlike chinese who are stripped naked even by tiny Bhutan if warned.

the best you Indians can do is begging US as security backup while shouting "come to fight us ..what you're waiting for" and if we ever annihilated Indian army as 1962, you guys gonna cry that we're imperialism and expansionism...and probably shouting "boycott Chinese product" as way to comfort your Indian humiliation

China ‘to offer Malaysia radar, rocket launchers based in Johor’

KUALA LUMPUR — China will offer Malaysia advanced rocket launchers and a radar system, to be based in Johor, reflecting the widening defence and trade ties between the two countries in the South China Sea region, The Malaysian Insight reported sources as saying on Wednesday (Aug 9).

“The view from Beijing is that Malaysia is critical to peace and stability in the region,” a regional diplomat told The Malaysian Insight.

News of the possible deal came as China and Malaysia broke ground Wednesday on the US$13 billion (S$17.7 billion) East Coast Rail Link project linking peninsular Malaysia’s east and west, the largest such project in the country and a major part of Beijing’s Belt and Road infrastructure push.

The planned 688km route connects the South China Sea, large parts of which are claimed by China, at the Thai border in the east with the strategic shipping routes of the Strait of Malacca in the west. “The ECRL is indeed yet another ‘game changer’ and a ‘mindset changer’ for Malaysia as it will significantly cut travel time to and from the east coast of the peninsula,” Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said at the ceremony halfway along the route in Kuantan.

Chinese State Councillor Wang Yong, who headed a 100-strong delegation in Kuantan, said: “The China government has attached great importance to China-Malaysia relations and has always considered Malaysia a dear neighbour and trustworthy partner who is committed to seeking mutually beneficial cooperation and common development in the country.”

Mr Najib said the project will be financed with an 85 per cent loan from China Exim Bank and the balance through a “sukuk” Islamic bond programme run by local investment banks. Mr Najib has recently announced a spree of infrastructure projects, many funded by China, as he builds up momentum for a general election that he has to call by next year.

The growing closeness to China has raised eyebrows among opponents who have argued that the country has become too reliant on Chinese funds. But Mr Najib dismissed the concerns in a speech on Tuesday, saying turning away Chinese investment made “no economic sense”. AGENCIES

When You claim ownership of a street two blocks away, just because You parked
your car there, and people keep driving by your car, ignoring you jumping up and down,
with a red face in the cellar of Your house, you have a good analogy.

Lol us navy ship must be jumping up and down now since China keeps ignoring their warnings.
Seriously, I lost count of how many shots, I mean warnings that america fired to China. If you include warnings from japan, india and some irrelevant european countries, the numbers will be astoundingly big.
Don't you guys get tired of handing out warnings? Well it's understandable since it's the only thing you guys can afford/capable of doing. That's what typically happens when the country you're trying to bully is far bigger and more powerful than you are.
I know it's a sad reality for you and your kind, but China is no pushover anymore.

what a waste of barrels of diesel just for the aims of flashing your d**k to your cheerleaders. so childish.

if you have guts, moor your ships there for good.
Everytime we advance, you chicken out and away craping your pants for the indians savouring the smell on the sideline!

With all eyes on North Korea, and President Trump promising "fire and fury" for Pyongyang over its nuclear and missile programs, the U.S. Navy quietly dispatched a warship to sail by one of China's artificial islands in the South China Sea on Thursday, a Navy official confirmed to Fox News.

USS John S. McCain, a guided-missile destroyer, sailed within 12 nautical miles from Mischief Reef, one of three man-made islands that contain a runway and military fortifications constructed during the past few years.

It's the third time the Pentagon has conducted a "freedom of navigation" challenging China's claims in the region since President Trump took office. Fox News first reported the previous incident in July.

A US Navy P-8 reconnaissance plane flew nearby to monitor Thursday's operation, according to a separate defense official. It did not take part in the operation

USS Dewey, another guided-missile destroyer, sailed by Mischief Reef in May.

12 nautical miles from shore marks the territorial boundary for all nations. Since the U.S. and international community reject China's claim to the island and the surrounding sea, the passage of a U.S. destroyer close by the island amounts to a protest of sort, known as a "freedom of navigation" operation in Pentagon argot.

China has built seven artificial islands in the region in the past few years.

Reuters first reported the Thursday operation.

The warship is named after Sen. John McCain's father and grandfather, both U.S. Navy admirals. The senator visited the warship in Vietnam back in June.

The official said this latest freedom of navigation operation was planned in the past few weeks. They have been occurring roughly each month since May.

China has long protested these operations.

President Trump has been calling on China to do more to rein in North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, but with little success.

The Trump administration did manage to get China and Russia's support for a unanimous 15-0 UN Security Council resolution last weekend which aimed to take a billion dollars in exports away from the rogue communist regime.

Securing power in the South China Sea: Beijing’s plans for floating nuclear reactors get US$150 million boost
Joint venture company is expected to develop new technologies to boost China’s maritime nuclear capabilities

China has announced plans to bolster its maritime nuclear capabilities with the creation of a major new joint venture project, which could also provide the catalyst for the development of floating reactors in the South China Sea and beyond.

State-owned China National Nuclear Power announced on Thursday it was establishing the new company – with registered capital of one billion yuan (US$150 million) – in cooperation with Zhejiang Zheneng Electric Power, Shanghai Guosheng Group, Jiangnan Shipyard and Shanghai Electric.

The joint venture will seek to strengthen China’s nuclear power capabilities in line with its ambitions to “become a strong maritime power”, the company said in a statement.

It will also support China’s “Belt and Road Initiative”, which aims to boost trade and infrastructure links with nations across Asia and Africa.

The statement did not say how or where the technologies will be used, but observers said it is likely they will be deployed in areas such as the South China Sea.

In a separate notice the state power giant said the new company will also seek to promote the development of nuclear-powered vessels.

Wang Yiren, vice-director of the State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence, said earlier this year that the expansion of China’s nuclear energy capabilities was a vital part of its five-year plan. The country will prioritise the development of a floating nuclear power platform in order to support its offshore oil and gas activities, and its presence in the Paracel and Spratly Islands, he told state media.

Wang’s comments came after Beijing said in a white paper last year that it was developing floating nuclear power plants to facilitate the exploration of maritime resources.

China Securities Journal reported last year that China could build up to 20 floating nuclear plants in the region to “speed up the commercial development” of the South China Sea.

Beijing has increasingly been flexing its muscles in the South China Sea, with the development of artificial islands and more frequent naval patrols. It has declared sovereignty over 85 per cent of the region and is engaged in multiple territorial disputes with its neighbours.

China still building South China Sea islands, think tank says

Collin Koh, a military expert from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Singapore's Nanyang Technology University, said maritime nuclear power plants have a wide range of uses, and their presence would have both symbolic and practical purposes.

As well as producing electricity for Chinese infrastructure in the disputed waters, they could offer a long-term solution to the country’s water supply problems with the provision of desalination facilities, and support China’s status as a maritime power, he said.

Such facilities will also enable China’s military to take a step closer to developing a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, he said.

“China sees securing the ability to develop marine nuclear tech as a manifestation of its maritime power status,” Koh said. “It will enhance Beijing’s staying power and assert its claims, as military garrisons and civilian personnel living on those remote outposts would be able to sustain themselves better [and therefore stay longer].”

Carlyle Thayer, a regional security expert at the Australian Defence Force Academy, said that if nuclear power plants were built in the South China Sea, Beijing would have to provide security for them.

“It makes living conditions and life there much improved, and it’s a sign of Chinese permanence,” he said. “The more infrastructure China puts on there ... they can say, we’re only doing necessary defence to protect our people and our facilities.”

Although the nuclear power plants would have both military and civilian uses, it would “raise the cost of the conflict” in the region, he said.

Kai Ji-jung, chair professor of nuclear engineering at City University of Hong Kong, said that while the technology for floating nuclear plants is not yet mature, countries such as China and the US are putting “tremendous amounts of effort” into developing it.

Floating plants are typically much smaller than onshore ones, with no more than a quarter of the electricity production capability, he said.

“Their purpose is to be mobile, so they can float to any harbour or any island, so you have remote electricity,” he said.

How about telling US to park their ship in our island since these are our claim territory according to your logic:lol:, and I'm pretty sure your nation don't have the gut come within our 12 miles, we're not the one who jump up and down because we sit comfortably on these islands, US is the one who is insecure and feel the need to acknowledge their present to get our attention.

I suspected he was a false flagger. Real Swedes have virtually native-level English; this guy's is odd and non-standard.

Actually that is not true.
I have been to Sweden and not all of them speak good English similar to a native.

He is probably a native Swede who just dislikes Muslims and countries like China as they are challenging the
Western order.

With Nuclear power plant and reclamation, this will boost China tremendous power on SCS, we can virtually make these island as unsinkable carriers, imagine with a rail guns, we can hit any target, nations within 300 km radius with unlimited devastating fire power.

Your type of attitude is yet another reason for other nations to dislike China and Chinese.

Lol not even US is respecting international law nor human right, you're a$$ kissing US all day long and you dare come to lecture us about these issues..

and read me lip, do we care the type of thinking like you to see himself as always right and other are wrongs. we don't need to kiss any body's a$$ to earn respect or expect them to like us, if other respect us we will reciprocate and return the courtesy, with A$$-hole, you will handle him with a$$-hole attitude...simple as that.

I don't doubt that You only respect those that see You as always right, and everybody else as wrong.
That is probably why China is in conflict with most of its neighbours.
