Sometimes you have to take the news with a bit of common sense.
What is inside of F16 which is exactly going to be made in India?? The software is a trade secret, much of the electronics sensors and sub systems comes from third party....the computers and stuff are all propitiatory...engines are from GE and will need a separate agreement / approval and TOT...Whats is left?? Mostly air frame...

The entire process is just going to be an assembly plant, but hilarious none the less. Looked over by Lockheed employees to guarantee quality.

Yes...India needs 650 jets...so it is US that owe India. Boeing and SAAB too offered to produce jets in India under make in India program.

It's a 4th gen fighter, that will need repairs and upgrades to keep it competitive. So, it's not much.

But it's more of the building blocks to enter the market. The US doesn't 'owe' India. India's going for 5th gen from Russia, and filling up 4.5 with it's own AMCA and that other jet it made. Supported by a foreign 4.5 for added technical superiority.

Pakistan has been flying the F16 for three decades now..and the experience of man power cannot be ignored..India will be a new kid on the block with shiny F16..at the same time Pakistan can procure higher capability F16 like those of UAE.

Well, till few days back, F-16s were useless for India and Pakistani birds worth nothing to them but suddenly it became the best fighter for India. I wish, India may opt F-16s and the game be begun as what we want to be. Pakistan knows what is going to happen and has planes so don't worry if F-16s are make in India or not. We have no plan for more induction after 100 so new birds aren't meant for us rest about spares and all, Turkey Zindabad. With all that money haven't succeed to induct Rafale yet talks for F-16s manufacturing is started so i doubt the result will be the same. Waiting till copy paste started.

rafale is costing $250 million a plane while an f16 is costing around $80 million. this might prompt India to go for f16 to fill its bulk of 650 planes that India need to fill. i guess if India goes for f16, it is just to fill the numbers. MKI, FGFA and rafale will be the main fighters of IAF stable. Then there are also Grippen, Tejas and f18 that can fill the gap of 650 fighter jets
