I'd say rather have a preliminary meeting with foriegn minister and test waters ... call off the meeting with the prime minister to cut it short and without any escalation.

I'm surprised that Pompeo meets The prime minister instead of foreign minister. Trump would never meet with Pakistan's foreign minister and I'd doubt if he'd even want meet or even same room as Pakistan's prime minister. I guess the goal is to show their disdain and hence the distance. Pakistan has at this point no need to kowtow to U.S. line

US has not given a single dollar in the last 3 years. So it's hardly a surprise nor we are expecting any aid for them. It's clear no more signal form us. Most likely, AH1Z won't be delivered anymore and perhaps sanctions to helicopters engines and f16s spares.

The US military said it has made a final decision to cancel $300 million in aid to Pakistan that had been suspended over Islamabad's perceived failure to take decisive action against militants, in a new blow to deteriorating ties.

The so-called Coalition Support Funds were part of a broader suspension in aid to Pakistan announced by President Donald Trump at the start of the year, when he accused Pakistan of rewarding past assistance with "nothing but lies and deceit."

The Trump administration says Islamabad is granting safe haven to insurgents who are waging a 17-year-old war in neighboring Afghanistan, a charge Pakistan denies.

"Due to a lack of Pakistani decisive actions in support of the South Asia Strategy the remaining $300 (million) was reprogrammed," Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Kone Faulkner said.

At least finally a strong Minister for Foreign Affairs gave a strong message to the nation, its citizens and to trump that we are not bound to your so called aid neither are we willing to perform all the actions (including war on terror) you want us to do in order to be provided with this so called aid. Before now i have always seen our foreign ministry and other officials start negotiating with american's i mean why we have to negotiate they are taking full advantage of our land. All of their NATO supply go through Pakistan and then to Afghanistan and then wherever it is intended.

Simply the message is that we will not negotiate anything out of our interests that's it, as per PM Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi said if america has to talk we are ready to welcome them on all the issues which are mutually beneficial and there is no space for one sided issues.

It should be taken as just that. This is Mattis with his tough talk attempt, the best way is to NOT respond in escalation in the same line but rather use factual justification to respond. The FM has put a correct first step, but it should be followed with a more forceful remark saying since money owed is not being returned, we will have to suspend our "services" such as transit and overflight permissions.

That leaves ZERO capacity for air support in Afghanistan out of carrier battle groups in the persian gulf. Now the true squeeze would be to see if Turkey can be made to help out since it too faces a grumpy Pentagon and simply refuse flights out of Incrilik.

That will leave Bagram in a supply twist with the European route the only way to send stuff in which is much more expensive than the Urbi route.
