India is 1/6 th of the world, so the legitimacy is higher than some other candidates. ANyway on your point about west, it's not just a question of their growing old but in the case of UK an explicit series of disastrous decisions have rendered them with no teeth and the country therefore does not count. Militaily for instance:

- Trident has sapped and enervated their navy
- F 35 B well do I need to say
- EFT officially 20 years old and on the decline (so conventional strength failing)
- QE carriers will be a joke until the F 35s come and even then we know they won't be great shakes

In almost all other technological and industrial idexes other countries like India and China are rising while Britain is failing. So what legitimacy does Britain have? That way even Portugal was a great colonial empire once- would you concede them a P5 status today?

Yes it has a large population, so do Brazil, Pakistan, Indonesia and so on. Legitimacy based on population doesn't hold a great deal of merit.
The British military is certainly not without teeth, it still is one of the most advanced and battle hardened militaries anywhere in the world. The military projects you mentioned are mere delays and won't leave leave lasting impact on the UK's operational readiness.
Britain isn't falling, where did you get this from? London is one of the world's most innovative cities.

Actually after the second world war started in 1939, British were not in any position to be in India. On 3 December 1941, the Viceroy ordered the acquittal of all the satyagrahis and only after that Indian Delegation attended the first UN meeting in 1942.

Especially during the Battle of Britain in 1940, Gandhi resisted calls for massive civil disobedience movements that came from within as well as outside his party, stating he did not seek India's independence out of the ashes of a destroyed Britain.

There are other European cities in places like Scandinavia that score high on several of these indexes, you obviously cannot give them primacy basis that. And like I said, UK military power has seen a permanent decline. As of today their lead offensive jet is the Tornado (not the EFT), that....just....some....joke.....

Pakistan never wanted a nuclear deal from USA, because we have access to all of it from China, whether military or civilian use.

It is the China that is the problem for India's UNSC seat and not US and Russia. But by not having India, UNSC cannot be democratic or legal...you just cannot leave 20% of world population out and claim to represent the world.

Those sanctions and all the aid that india receives will take the air out of your economy faster than the Indians fart after eating their vegie dinner.

Nobody could do anything to Russia not because it is in P5, but it is militarily powerful for someone take on with out getting damaged in the process.

Even if India takes over Maldives, no one can take on India except make some noise. May be some sanctions.

Japan is。
