The US government has approved the sale to Pakistan of additional Lockheed Martin F-16C/D Block 52 Fighting Falcon combat aircraft.

The approval, which was given by the state department and announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 12 February, is valued at USD699.04 million and covers aircraft, engines, systems, training, and support.

Specifically, the DSCA notification lists two single-seat F-16C and six twin-seat F-16D aircraft fitted with the Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 increased performance engine; 14 Joint Helmet-Mounted Cueing Systems; eight AN/APG-68(V)9 radars; and eight ALQ-211(V)9 Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suites.

"The proposed sale improves Pakistan's capability to meet current and future security threats. These additional F-16 aircraft will facilitate operations in all-weather, non-daylight environments, provide a self-defence/area-suppression capability, and enhance Pakistan's ability to conduct counter-insurgency and counterterrorism operations," the DSCA notification said, adding, "This sale will increase the number of aircraft available to the Pakistan Air Force to sustain operations, meet monthly training requirements, and support transition training for pilots new to the Block 52."

The notification did not disclose delivery timelines.

how many threads do you guys need. i get it..... your getting f16's.

I get an impression that the abundance of news with Pakistanis gloating and Indians whining is part and parcel of the forum.

From a strategic perspective this deal is unlikely to change the status quo and is geared for helping Pakistan out in it's CT operations against groups threating both US and Pakistani interests.

One thing though is indeed strange and that is Indian displeasure at the deal, would they rather have Pakistan buying EFT or Chinese Flankers which are specifically designed air dominance and hence prominently aimed towards India? F-16s at-least ensure some form US monitoring of the end use while the other alternatives would have been free of strings. Put simply Indian behaviour even at the highest level seems out of sorts with reality.

They are not whinning about F-16, they thought by coming closer to US, US would ditched Pakistan completely but instead of that happening they themselves have lost some point in Russians circles and Pakistan position is unchanged.Instead Pakistan is now dealing with all the three defence giants of the world US,CHINA ,RUSSIA
The new government came with the policy of isolating Pakistan which backfired and now that's the real reason of whinning/butthurt

The trick is the more noise India makes and the more publicity US provides, the more easier it would be for the Pakistani establishment to sell this deal to the Pakistani public.

From India's perspective, F-16s do not bring anything additional to the table that Pakistan already has. Indian planners would rather have a known entity in F-16 than an unknown entity in J-10C.

India would rather have Pakistan's keys with US than China.

They are gonna start thread as soon a new source is published and indians gonna come with all butthurt and supa pawa gunz blazing too:lol:
FYI...USA just offered 50-60 Howitzer cannons to India...

well yes it is. pakistanis do gloat a huge deal which is in part fueled by indian displeasure of the deal. simply put it adding fuel to the fire.

this deal is simply killing two bird with one stone. its increasing the usa's influence in Pakistan and to some part the region [Afghanistan] the usa understands Pakistan is the key to peace in Afghanistan. and secondly ensuring that Pakistan is reliant on kit from the usa. remember the attack helicopter fiasco? at first they refused to sell the zulu's but when word got out that 3 z10's were in pakistan for testing and evaluations, also russia selling mil-35 and turkey trying sell the t129 and getting an end user license on the american engines. the usa simply steped in and sold the zulu's to them along with 1000 helfire missiles and a few other bits and bobs.

there are other alternatives that you pointed out. firstly china cant sell any of its flankers to anyone due to a deal with russia allowing china to build the j series flankers and export the al31 engines with no objections. the eft is simply to expensive for those guys. even thought its a beast. from what i know of these guys they are working on getting a 5th gen fighter and actively trying to buy new and used f16, which is similar to the mirage rose program.

They have over reacted. I am surprised too at Indian reaction. Agreed with you on too many threads on this. Folks are just rubbing it a bit too much on their face. Welcome to my part of the world!
