Upgrading Pakistan’s Special Operations Forces in a cost effective way.

Make em qualified.
It's the military not some old wives social club.
Osprey is not feasible. End of the story

I would personally like to see that beast in Pakistan's colours its not the time. Maybe in the future. Think of something more feasible.

Just one small correction: we don't use FAST helmets. Those are made by Ops Core. According to my cousin currently serving in the SSG, they use MICH 2001 helmets with rail systems.
Assalam O Alaikum
Can you please give me your cousin's Facebook, Instagram, etc. account or of any other SSG operator because I have some questions of my own.
Don't worry I won't mention you.
Or can you just ask the following questions from him and then message me or upload the answers in the thread:
1. They upload a lot of images online revealing their face and identity which can be used by enemy surveillance cameras which have the latest Artificial Intelligence which in turn will compromise their covert operations and resulting in operational failure. The threat is real as it has already been used against us directly or indirectly in 2020. Everyone directly or indirectly accepts that they were used by ISI as a paramilitary force against Soviet Union in Afghanistan and is still being used by ISI for purposes I don't want to mention but I know that they do the right thing. Why is it that such a great Intelligence Agency(ISI) and such a great Special Operations Force which can defeat a superpower and is still doing so know about hasn't upgraded itself in cyber warfare and something simple as wearing a mask. Is it possible that they might be fooling us as they are really good at it?

2.What exactly is the 'Covert Action Division' and 'Directorate S' or 'SS directorate'(there is a lot of confusion online) and what is the difference between these two?

3. What is Pakistan's approx equivalent of TIER 1? Is it Zarrar COY?

4. Do SSG officers get issued tactical watches?

Upgrading Pakistan’s Special Operations Forces in a cost effective way.

Pakistani Special Forces are one of the world best SOF in the world. Thanks to its past joint training with UK SAS and SBS and US Special Forces. They adopted their western counterparts training regime and added their own touch simply making it better.

Special Operations not only depend upon specially trained operators but also some special gadgets. We see our SOF community is still lagging behind in this regard. Yes budget is main problem. In this article I’ll focus on equipping them in a cost effective way and still providing them with quality gear.

We don’t have to equip them all at same time things will take time. Start by giving gear to Tier 1 units like Zarrar, No.3 Powindah’s Cdo. Batt. and Musa Coy. Naval and Air Force components are our small spear heads so we can equip them all.

*All the equipment will be low in price but good in quality and reliability. (Some equipment is pricey but not too much)

Starting off,

1. Helmets.

We know FAST helmets are being used now in Pakistan as well. But still we need to do something about old PASGT helmets used by Army SSG. They deserve better. We can start off by providing them all with FAST high cut helmets. These helmets also need reasonable upgrades.

These above Helmet setups are being used by Professionals around the world.

MICH helmet also allows couple of neat setups.

View attachment 633418

For this purpose:

1: 3M Comtac III peltor Two way (Protection + Communication) headset. Mount to helmet if not using helmet wear them with headbands. (600$)

2: IR Strobes for IFF or Distress or Marking positions. (You can through older MS2000 strobes towards enemy because of they are strong) (100$)

3: Counter Weights OR Battery boxes (For Powering NVGs) to balance out weight of NVG so that neck strain is reduced.

4: Use a white flashlight if you want.

2. NVGs/ NODs

For a long time our armed forces using single tube PVS-14s. No its time to move on to Dual tube night visions which provide wide field of view than looking through single tube. PVS-15 is expensive like 12,000$. As I promised cost effective Just buy more PVS-14s (Cost 3,000$ Aprrox Per unit) and bridge them into two. That’ll be around 7000$.

3. Optics (For Guns)

We do have optics like Aimpoints and EO-Techs but those are for short range battles. After 200 yard you literally can’t ID bullet impact. What if we want to shoot at like 500/600yard? Aimpoints don’t work. Trijicon ACOGs are expensive. So we want a affordable optic that is Bushnell Optics, Drop Zone Reticle Riflescope with Target Turrets, Matte Black, 1-4x/24mm (150$).

It’s not a massive scope so don’t worry.

4. Gun Upgrades (Reasonable)
Don’t you think our M-4s are bit old looking don’t have modern accessories which do look cool but they are very helpful.
  • First and foremost, Rail extension (Available around 70-100$).
View attachment 633421
View attachment 633422

Yeah they sound crazy so why extended rail system.
Firstly, there’s the way it’s mounted - the KAC M4 RAS uses the original delta ring and front handguard ring, meaning a shift in the rail system (from gripping, rests, barricades) is translated to the barrel, affecting accuracy. Systems like the DD RIS II use a barrel ring or other method at the receiver end which means the handguard does not contact the barrel further down, “free floating” the handguard and resulting in little to no accuracy shift.

Secondly, you have more rail space closer to the muzzle. This allows you to mount accessories not only in such a way that you’re afforded a better grip on the weapon, but also for weapon lights to be mounted so that they cause less shadow (barrel/muzzle blocking light beam and limiting FOV) as well as glare (light bouncing off the barrel/muzzle affecting vision and giving away position).

And most importantly C-Grip OR C-Clamp.

  • Better Fore-grips: There are in plenty at affordable prices.

  • Suppressors: They come in handy in clearing out buildings/ Hostage Rescue/ Night time operations.(400$).

5. Battle Dress Uniforms:

Yes we are using combat shirts. But still not using padded combat shirts and pants.

With Elbow and shoulder pads. Fire Retardant material.

Give this job to POF clothing factory.

6. Combat Boots:

There are plenty of tactical boots available on market at cheaper prices.(200$)

7. Misc. Equipment:

  • GPS (Not for everyone just for team leader)

  • Wrist Map Pouches

  • SOFLAMS, Laser Designators to pinpoint CAS from rotary or fixed wing aircrafts.

  • IR Strobes for IFF by your squad mates and Air Support above your heads. Visible Chem lights and IR Chem Lights for marking positions. Or they can be used to show your location to incoming friendly helicopters. Tie one end with cord and swing around in a circle.

So pretty much it.

That's a Total of 10,000$ Generously per person.

If the SF for Spec Ops are being sent inside IOK or India, then such acquisition is worth it.

For COIN, lets spare the SF and slap the Civil admin to maintain the areas cleared up by SF already. The Civil admin (e.g. FATA) is provided resources and funding, where is that money going ?

Doesn't that merit being dressed as a civillian/to go in incognito to avoid detection?

Equipment, logistics etc are still required. Support of all kinds should always be available for ingress and extraction. None should be treated as orphans.

Our brotherly country like Turkey can help us in this regard. They are making all of these things. They are of good quality and not that expensive as products form USA or Europe. Some other European countries are also making good products which are cheaper than USA products for example Poland and Italy and few others.

Equipment, logistics etc are still required. Support of all kinds should always be available for ingress and extraction. None should be treated as orphans.

Reminds me of SSG guys who were caught by TTP. In those days our military was caught off-guard with the whole insurgency and was not ready. ISI's network was also very weak and TTP had sympathizers everywhere, ISI too had rogue elements who thought TTP was fighting a legitimate struggle. Blackwater recruitment/operations focused heavily on former SSG/SSW/SSGN guys.

I think Musharraf and other ex SOF guys may have been lead to believe that Blackwater will fight terrorists but they started doing their own thing. Or Musharraf simply yielded to U.S "with us or against us bullying"

We should have more business with developing nations in general. Rich white nations will only take too much from us and offer very little business opportunity in return.

yes and those badass chaps just came to know they were going to be beheaded so they killed 8 taliban in the room in front of the camera in which they were going to be executed pure badass!

Hope Taliban scum burns in hell and May the SSG guys get jannah. That indeed is highly valorous taking out 8 guys that too unarmed. How do you know of this happening cuz the video cuts out at the end. Note: how the media was also playing dirty. Now they cry after being put on a leash.

Dumba$$ reporter says "Pakistani aslaha" is made in Kahuta. What an idiot.

'Four Commandos of Pakistan Army were given the responsibility to infiltrate the enemy lines to give an opening to the advancing forces, so that forces could strike exactly at the enemy without harming the civilian population under the hostage of the terrorists. These four commandoes didnt waste a second and jumped into the fire. They fought thier way long into the enemy and delivered invaluable information to their station, before they were captured alive by the terrorists.

Captain Najam Riaz was one of them and he belonged to Kahuta. Four of them were taken into a cave and they became victim of extreme torture by the terrorists. Terrorists even tried to use them get a bargain out of the army and allowed these commandos to get in touch with their families back home, just to exert pressure at the army. Proud families of these commandos never utter a squeal of complaint to anybody.

The then commission of Malakand Muhammad Javed was sent to Taliban to negotiate the release of these commandos. Commission went there and only asked terrorists to return the guns of the commandos. He took the guns and returned. This whole episode was delivered by captain Najam back home. After some time, eight terrorists barged into the cave and tried to behead the commandoes. Commandoes retaliated and killed all eight of them instantly. More terroists barged in with weapons and sprayed bullets on to the commandoes. Dead commandos were then beheaded and thrown into the river.

Martyrs commandoes are our real asset, our beacons, the guaranttee for our survival. Its must that terrorists must not be spared. They must be wiped out as thorougly as possible without mercy. And commission Javed? He should be brought to justice publicly.'

If “looks” could kill, US and Afghan forces would have won the war in Afghanistan but the Taliban did. No helmets, no combat boots, no battle dress no nothing. That was also true in Vietnam.

General Metha the founder of SSG use to say “take pride in your poverty” which meant be effective with the resources you have. You guys think special forces is some sort of a fashion show that the best dressed and equipped will win.
Well said.

The first para of this story is factually wrong. Rest is generally fine. Moreover, the bodies of the dead commandos were not thrown into river.

It would be interesting if you can find from somewhere what happened to the Terrorist commander (who was responsible for their beheading) once he was captured.....
