***Upgradation of T-72 tanks begins in Jaisalmer***

My frnd VARTA was based on russian shtora-1 by ukranians and was never pitched in the indian tender............. while VARTA-1 is a modified VARTA by ukranian and on AK ....It is coupled with HIT RAHBAR making it far more deadlier & lethal as an APS.

to tell you the truth I have little knowledge of the aps used by pakistani tanks - my point was that the varta is a copy of the shtora and we rejected the shtora(which was in the tender) for the leds 150
 
Arjun MBT is better in ground pressure to T-90s. It is the latest tank we have and yet the foreign-junk Army top brass is showing its corruption here as well. There are Sarvatra bridges already made for Arjuns to cross over tough areas. The IA can easily go for 1,000+ Arjuns to replace the T-72s. But then their commission won't come na. Disgusting :tdown:
 
My bad, the t 90 can survive a DU round - infact even an upgraded t 72 can survive it easily

Man,you have to understand that M1 Abram's main gun is not the strongest anymore.It's L44 gun has been outclassed by the german Rheimetal L55 smoothbore gum which uses a much longer barrel than the L44 and so the gas generated by the propelant can work for a longer duration on the penetration core,significantly increasing the mussel velocity.And that's why even our ARDE L52 gun of Arjun is better that that of M1 Abrams.So the M 829 DU round if fired from any of these barrels will go through both Kontact 5 ERA and the casted turret of T 90.

Hey Pakistani nationalist,as I told you have very little knowledge about tanks.The VARTA is a passive defence system like russian Shtora1.It is not an active protection system.Man,you can't even separate a passive system from an active one!!!!

As I said earlier Sarvatra bridges not solve the problem. Their is lots of area in LAC that which is not connected with even a single lane road. And I think 250 Mk 1 is more then sufficient. Then we can go for Mk2. Why we are not going with a lighter tank. We already had an project Tank Ex. And I think this is the world where things changes very rapidly. So, apply lots of funding on a single tank is not the wise thought.

perhaps it will go through the kontakt 5 but in case of the t 90m the better gun will meet the better era armor - kaktus ( its supposed to be made of a secret material that the russians wont even disclose to india- we get it directly from them, even for the t 90s which we produce at hvf)
 
there's was a thread here at df.pk about the kaktus vs kontact 5 a few years back - there are a few good articles but it got carried away to the jf 17 ( i have no idea how)

Mr. Omega007, i think you didn't understand my view. i m not saying that arjun is not a good tank. At this time, this tank is best in world. But the IA not needed this tank in quantity.

My view is that TANK EX should prepare as tech. demonstrator. And Tank EX mk 2 should make it according to the IA.

If in future Arjun mk 2 has ERA Armour, good engine(2000 hp), good range(550 km), and also autoloder. Then the wt is no more a issue.
 
We definitely need Arjun around 500-600, but not more then because it was made to counter the planned M1 acquisition from America by Pak. But now not such a problem as the T-90s India possess now can easily handle Al-Khalid and Type 98 and 96s. Russian Federation is not dumb,they know its T-90s can handle the Chinese tanks.
Thus, it is important to acquire Arjun but not is nos. 1500-2000. We may do if we are move 15-20 yrs ahead. Now the tanks are getting lighter, shedding crew.

So, what we needed is that maintain uniformity and keep evolving. We can select a single chassis with also flexibility to generalise its function that of a tank, an APC, an IFV, a tank killer, a mobile radar, an AA gun platform etc. The advantage of this that nothing is scrap and we can recycle it for other purpose.

The BMP- chassis and number of platform evolving on BMP-chassis is a good step.
 
ok, read somewhere ( in an article by prasun k sengupta- so dont know whether to believe it or not) that the later t 90m will have kanchan armour instead of the russian composite armour and on top of that the kaktus era- if true this will make the t 90 unkillable on the battlefield( do you guys think if i sent a rti to indian army they'll tell me more about the armour of the t 90???)

I don't think IA will reply the RTI on this matter. This is highly classified matter.

LEDS - Land Electronic Defence System


The Land Electronic Defence System (LEDS) combines active signature management, softkill and hardkill mechanisms to provide full spectrum active protection to land vehicles. Full hemispherical coverage is provided to detect incoming threats and alert the crew. When installed in full configuration, the System will offer main battle tank comparable protection to light and medium combat vehicles against engagement by weapons like the RPG-7, anti-tank missiles, KE ammunition, mortars and artillery shells.
LEDS consists of a sensor suite, a central active defence controller, a high speed directed dispensing system (HSDL) and countermeasure options, ranging from fast multi-spectral smoke, through active signature management devices and decoys, to hardkill options that destroy the approaching ammunition before it hits the vehicle.

The LEDS system makes provision for various interfaces that allow for comprehensive integration with on-board combat vehicle systems. The system also incorporates a mission data support facility.

The sensor suite provides hemi-spherical coverage. Sensor options include, laser warning, missile approach warning and a future active threat acquisition and tracking system. The HSDL provides hemispherical countermeasure deployment, in the appropriate sequence, onto the detected threat direction. Dispensing can be controlled manually or fully automatically.

LEDS uses the Mongoose 1 hard kill counter-munition against RPG-7 type weapons and ATGM when launched at the vehicle from > 20 m. The Mongoose has extremely low collateral damage effect.

Smoke Grenade Launchers: Mounted either side of the turret is a bank of six electrically operated 81mm smoke grenade launchers which are in a new low-angle configuration compared to those fitted to earlier Russian MBTs. The quick forming aerosol screening system comprises the four laser radiation sensors (two coarse and two fine receiving heads), the Type 902A Aerosol Forming Grenade Launch System dispensing 81mm 3D17 aerosol grenades and associated controls. The aerosol screening system detects laser illumination, determines its direction and type (laser range-finder or designator), generates warning signals, both audio and visual, and lays in automatic or semi-automatic modes, quick forming aerosol screens within three seconds at a distance of 50 to 80 metres from the tank. In addition, the tank can also lay its own smoke screen by injecting diesel fuel into the exhaust outlet located on the left side of the hull.

The 2A46M smoothbore gun is stabilised (Zhasmin 2E42-4 system) in two axes and is fitted with a thermal sleeve. The gun tube can be replaced without a need for dismantling inside the turret. The gun can fire various ammunition including APFSDS-T (Armour Piercing Fin Stabilised Discarding Sabot - Tracer), HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank), HE-FRAG (High Explosive Fragmentation) as well as shrapnel projectiles with time fuzes. In addition it can also fire a special HE-FRAG projectile that can be detonated over the target using the tank's fire-control system. Maximum rate of fire is at 7 rounds per minute. The gun can also fire the 9M119 Refleks-M (NATO: AT-11 Sniper-B) anti-tank guided missile system. The range of the missile is 75 to 5000 metres and takes 14.2 seconds to reach maximum range. The system is intended to engage tanks fitted with ERA (Explosive Reactive Armour) as well as low-flying air targets such as helicopters, at a range of up to 5 km. Hit probability is over 80%. The missile system fires either the 9M119 (3UBK14 weapon system) or the 9M119M (3UBK20 weapon system) missiles which have semi-automatic laser beam riding guidance and a hollow charge warhead. Missile weight is 23.4 kg. The gun's automatic loader will feed both ordnance and missiles.

Self-Protection

The hull and turret are protected by both conventional armour-plating and the latest generation Kontakt-5 ERA which provides protection against APFSDS (Armour Piercing Fin Stabilised Discarding Sabot) and HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) type projectiles. In addition to being fitted to the hull and turret, ERA panels are also fitted either side of the hull front to provide lateral protection to each side of the driver's compartment. The tank also has NBC (nuclear, biological and chemical) protection equipment. The TShU1-7 Shtora-1 countermeasures system is not fitted.

Fire Control & Observation

The T-90S has the 1A45T IFCS (Integrated Fire
Control System) which is automatic, but has a
manual override for the commander. The IFCS
comprises the gunner's day/night fire-control
system, gunner's IR sight or thermal imaging
sight, and commander's day/night sight-
observation system. The fire control system
comprises day sight-rangefinder with missile
guidance channel, armament stabilizer and
ballistic computer. The system is used by the
commander for gun and machine gun fire
control.
Propulsion
The T-90S will be powered by a 1,000 hp V-92S2
four-stroke V-12 diesel engine. This new engine,
fitted with a turbo-supercharger, offers
impressive specific power and specific fuel
consumption characteristics. The tank can carry
up to 1600 litres of fuel in the main, armour
plated fuel tanks and fuel drums. The tank is
provided with a snorkel for deep fording (up to 5
metres of water) with equipment which can be
deployed in 20 minutes. The mechanical
transmission includes primary reduction gear,
two planetary final gearboxes and two planetary
final drives. The running gear features torsion bar
suspension with hydraulic shock absorbers at 1, 2
and 6 road wheel stations and tracks with
rubber-metallic pin hinges.
Miscellaneous Information
A new track has been developed and tested for
the T-90S that not only has a longer life but also
has replaceable rubber pads that can be quickly
removed. Standard equipment includes NBC
protection, fire detection & suppression system,
nose-mounted dozer blade and a deep fording
kit. The tank is fitted with an air conditioning
system for operations in high ambient
temperatures
