F-INSAS has been on the cards for a very long time. But the problem is it is indigenous. So no chance of major money making for the bidders. :hitwall: Had this been some European supplier, the Defence Ministry would have lapped it up.
TATA(afaik they got the contract for the pilot project) can register a company in the USA as Technical Accessories for Trained Armies (T.A.T.A.) Pvt Lmt.
Then they will get the 'Implement' order in no time. :hang2:

Completion- these products are already available, have been for 3-4 years. MKU saw that it would not get much business in its own country and decided to go do what it does (NATO registered provider and currently armoring Turkish milgem frigate's missile silos/VLS), TATA seems to have gone tardy too and is concentrating on other defense sectors. Can't blame them. So there is no time line despite ready availability of world class equipment. Damn it, MKU's maal is made in Kanpur, TATA is shudh desi (protection, comm gear) despite the shenanigans from TATA SEAD and optronics division.

Cammo is not a part in the sense the equipment providers will conform to any cammo the MOD tells them to use- that's no biggie. Although the babus love to not haul their *****, BMS and tactical control systems have held up the program since F-INSAS has a large networking component.

Maybe in the next 2-4 years. No guarantee either that these Indian firms will win since the OFB is always willing to play spoilsport.

Bro the helmet is like that for a reason-

AND ARC kit on the sides of the helmet-

I would have loved something like this but its way too expensive for us i guess..

That's all nice and all, but we dont know who they will pick for the project. No idea what DRDO is going either.

You guys have totally missed the point. The world is moving away from the 5.56 mm. Its too light for serious stopping power at over 200 m which is why the West is either returning to the 7.62 nato or inducting the 6.8 mm.
‘But this backfired against the Taliban. The 5.56 mm rounds did not take a big enough chunk out of them, allowing fanatical insurgents to keep on fighting despite their wounds. As a result, more SAS soldiers were shot and badly wounded.

‘The need for a heavier round was highlighted in the regiment’s post-Afghanistan report. Tests are now taking place on at least three rifles specially designed to fire the 7.62 mm rounds.

‘The difference in killing power between 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm is startling – the heavier rounds pack so much more of a punch
Still can't post links! Use tags to find the daily mail article.
Commando forces who work closer than regular infantry may still use the 5.56 mm but the latter would find it underpowered. Is there a move to develop heavier rounds for the INSAS or a whole new rifle? IMO,that would be ideal.

hey fellas, do post updates on the couple of new projects which replaced F-INSAS. Your contributions will be highly appreciated. Thank you in Advance. :)
