Update on Qatari Mirage 2000-5

sir who did said you that UAE mirages are old they are as new as yours to be frank even better in avionics than your mirages they hardly fly that much as iaf flies

Yes sir..i totally agree..Arab countries buy planes to keep their armed forces happy..they rarely fly them and their hangers are said to be even better than US..And i think most of the planes must have half of the life of Air frame left with them...
A mouthwatering deal any day if they ask for ~20Mil. for each.

Sad really ... these are very capable birds. But I guess the cost of operating them i.e. spares & munitions maybe quite high.

But the question arises that why would an air force first evaluate a fighter and then buy it ... only to decide to sell it off a few years later? Somebody didn't do his homework or kickbacks?

Hi,

Why would somebody buy a lambroghini one day and then buy a ferrari six months later.

These airplanes are just like toys to these people---they buy these planes for not what they can do with them---but for show and tell.

MK Bhai,

Having had the pleasure of work related interactions with them and other Arabs from the Gulf and Saudi Arabia ... I guess I understand what you mean.

What wrong with having a Lamborgini and Ferrari ?

Nothing wrong in having them as your personal collection. But the same thought process should not be associated in acquiring & operating your defence related assets.

I am not an expert on strategy making, But i can say that they should not go for fighters at least in future because of the fact that they don't need that & even though there are discussion going on about the future of military that it would be in the hands of Unmanned piloted vehicles not only in air but on ground and at sea and even beneath.
So the best they can do for future is that they should create a concrete Air-Defense(with High & Low-level Radars with having potent missiles) and to create Surface-Defense(with having potent missiles) and even if possible to place some Sonar-Defense beneath the sea bed. And also to buy or co-produce the MALE UCAV like U.S ones and to go for the required no. of AEW&C aircraft like 6 of these, these aircraft not only be cheaper to operate but also very effective in many ways and they can buy a modified ones that can utilize BVR ALRAAM's as well as ASRAAM's.

Offer was not fake...we were very much interested in buying these. But they thought we were desperate so, they asked $65 mil. for each aircraft.

However i agree with your latter part ..it was their greed thet has led them to this situation..

If my memory serves me better India quoted price of USD 35 million per plane only to out bid Pakistan.

They succeeded in that. Rest IAF knows if they were serious or not.

yes sir to be honest they got no enemies! they BELIEVE that the Iranians will attack them (but we all know that after desert storm no one is dumb to attack the arabs knowing that uncle will come as the PROTECTOR in return for oil ofcourse)!!

as for Israel the arabs are scared & intimidated by israel and if the leaders didn't fear repercussion from there people they would have by now signed MOST FAVORED COUNTRY deals with Israel but they are worried about rebellions!

so yes they keep these high ends fighters for show off and nothing else! :coffee:
