I don't understand why you people are making a fuss about it. Azizabad is MQM's den. PTI vote bank is mostly in upper and upper-middle class while lower and lower-middle class towns is where MQM flourishes. From NA-250 to NA 254 is where PTI can give a fight to MQM just like in the re-voting of NA 250 where PTI defeated MQM handsomely. So all this bullshit talk that PTI is finished in Karachi, no vote bank etc is crap. PTI is here to stay and will now fight MQM at every corner of the city. Also today's result depicts true vote bank of MQM which is 93K not 140 K whereas PTI vote bank generally remained intact. They got 32K in 2013 with additional votes because of JI's boycott while this time they managed to secure 22K without JI's support. On the other hand MQM, will all their furious election campaign and that too in their own den, lost nearly 50K of the votes as compared to 2013.

Even in NA 250 there is a large Area and very densely Populated one called Old City Area as well and they BOYCOTTED reelection that caused higher Margin of PTI in NA 250 otherwise even that would have been a very close call. The truth is that even current PTI Vote Bank is Ethnic one largely basing on Pashtuns and to some extent Punjabis in Karachi other then Posh Areas even then PTI Rely on Electable Votes rather then their Party Votes in most cases and with this prospect PTI cant survive in Karachi as they dont have proper Organization that people of Karachi Values. Its says when in "Rome do as Roman" so in Karachi they need to become ORGANIZED Party to Progress.

That is an extremely stupid thing to say, this is just one by-election and to be honest Karachi is not that important when it comes to national electoral politics. Karachi only holds what, i think 17 seats out of a Parliament that is made up of 342 Seats.

PTI is expected to clean sweep the LB Elections in KPK, they are menacingly strong in Punjab and the only party that is going to give PML-N a fight. PML-N is aware of the threat PTI poses and that is why it is desperately trying to postpone the LB Elections. You simply cannot compare a National Party to a City Party. The real Prize is Punjab, and PTI will go into elections in Punjab with the argument that they competed against MQM head on in their home-ground while PML-N is only a Punjab Based Party.

Agreed, PTI needs to became more organized in Karachi or even Sindh as a whole. They need to develop their 'Tanzeemi Nizam', something similar to what they are building in Punjab right now. Their Organization in Lahore, my home city is very impressive and very strong. They barely had any hiccups in shutting down Lahore during the Dharna.

You perhaps are talking about Delhi colony? No, it's a very small area in the constituency plus it's a home to several ethnic groups. Lets be fair and honest on this, Miss Shujaat had no chance to come anywhere near Dr. Alvi. PTI vote bank in Karachi isn't ethnic in nature, it's true that Pashtuns supported PTI in last elections but same goes with other ethnic groups as well. Please find me one electable that PTI awarded the ticket in Karachi, Dr. Alvi?

As for the 'establishment' conspiracy theories, no chance that ever happened. If the 'establishment' wanted to rig these elections they could have done so extremely easily - they had their people on the ground, they controlled the security systems and they could have controlled everything that went on in polling booths, if they wanted to.

It's not difficult at all for them to print ballot papers and counterfoils, cause a minor disturbance in a camera or edit out some footage and replace the boxes. Or, intercept the votes as they were being taken to be counted. There's no need to coerce voters. If this establishment was as evil as its being made out to be, no one would be able to stop them.

The reality is that these matters have been discussed on the highest levels of the military leadership and Raheel Sharif knows better than to try and manipulate internal politics - which is why they went to such great lengths to ensure transparency and impartiality in these elections (MQM jitnay bhi keeray nikal lei, the reality is still the same).

Some analysts have even suggested that this was a message; that the Karachi operation is not against MQM and the military won't be messing with any internal politics. They have bigger fish to fry.

But the fact that MQM continues to be so opposed to the Military - Pakistan's own brothers, sisters, sons and daughters - as if they were some foreign invaders, and the fact that MQM is also opposed to the very idea of Law Enforcement itself, is very problematic.

The Muhajir community tried federalists and national parties, what did they get in return? Quota systems? Language riots? Ethnic hatred with nicknames like bhooka nangay and panah ghazeer? Ayub Khan said he will push the Muhajirs in to the sea. Or what about ayub khan's son and his mob of Pushtuns attacking Muhajir localities for voting Fatima jinnah? Or the moving of the capital from Karachi to closer to Punjab? What about when Afghans attacked bihari/urdu speaking communities and the army was told to not interfere? Btw I am not Muhajir, I just happen to know more about this than many of the people here accusing Muhajir community of being ethnic centric when they don't understand why the Muhajir community feels under threat and why MQM was created. If by 'Hong Kong status' you mean its own administrative division, then I support that. Pakistan needs more administrative divisions, not just in Karachi or Sindh. Karachi and its outskirts can have one such division.

The existing Province -> Division -> District-> Tehsil etc system isn't good enough.

If you could say that in a less offending way, I'd agree with you. The reality is that the more Muhajirs or Urdu Speakers try to separate themselves from the rest of Pakistan, the more problems they create.

I wouldn't say 'nobody is Muhajir', let them call themselves that if they want to, but they shouldn't try so hard to represent themselves as different to the rest of Pakistan because they aren't so different.

Definitely, I also think Karachi needs to divided up into 2 or 3 smaller cities under the Karachi division. All cities of Pakistan need to be given local governments and more provinces need to be made. The Makran region too should be made into a province as it will give more importance to Gwadar.
