In their quest to produce a western-style adventure and thrill-based reality show in Pakistan, but poor, substandard and possibly lack of safety arrangements led to the death of its participant Saad Khan, victim’s cousin Mansoor Khan told Aarpix.

Saad lost his life during the recording of the reality show when host Amina Sheikh (model for Clear Shampoo) challenged him to an underwater performance contest. Saad Khan apparently lost his control and shouted for help but lack of safety and lifeline measures failed to rescue him and the young man, a father of four lost his life, report said.
The blame goes to the producers (sponsors?) of the show Unilever Pakistan and Mindshare, for hiring such a sub-standard team and having made cheap arrangements that became the cause of the death, said Aarpix.

Easy AdSense by Unreal
To what extent the private TV channel where the reality show was to be run is involved in its making is also not clear.
For now, the mainstream media has rejected to air any such news as they get a fair amount of advertising revenues from Unilever, Aarpix commented, adding, the spokespersons of the two companies have been shamelessly calling the incident a mere accident.
Mansoor Khan, the cousin of the victim has demanded that “all concerned people of Unilver Pakistan and Mindshare must be put behind bars.” He wants that the culprits who gambled with the life of his cousin must be brought to justice.
It is not known if the commonly practised concept of establishing life and accident related insurances for participanting individuals and workers of the reality show were in place during its filming and recording. No independent verification of the said report has been possible yet.

Saad Khan looses life in Unilever / Mindshare Reality Show accident

In a very shocking development a young 32 year old person, father of four kids looses his life during the filming of a reality show sponsored by Unilever and being produced by their advertising agency Mindshare. Saad Khan was a game show contestant and the host/model Amina Sheikh, who also is the model of Clear Shampoo, she gave an underwater challenge to Saad and during the execution of the stunt he apparently lost control, struggled and pleading for help could not recover, the inadequate safety personal and the equipment could not react in time and eventually he drowned

Saad Khan, 32 year old young man from Karachi and a father of four kids is sadly the victim, his body was returned to Karachi for burial two days back and the infuriated family has been running from pillar to post but it seems for some awkward reason it fails to catch the media frenzy and no media house is ready to ‘run the story’. It is a known fact that the media in Pakistan is usually head over heals on every other lame *** political slander, but surprisingly in Saad’s case this case of gross neglect is not worthy of even a short news item. Might this have anything to do with the influence of Unilever and Mindshare who are giant spenders armed with enormous advertisement budgets. Initially Saad’s family was furious to ensure that Unilever coughs up the responsibility, but at the moment the most important thing to look forward to is the future of Saad’s four kids who have no future.

Aarpix: These details are given by a 2nd cousin of Saad on the condition of anonymity. Saad was 31, 6′2″, handsome man was employed at RBS (formerly ABN AMRO). Saad live a very ambitious and thrilled life. In his professional life, he had accomplished more than his age. He had well established career and didn’t participate for the prize money or anything. He was rather very thrilling and adventurous. He was disqualified from the show after a few days but was then called by the death on a wild card entry.

He did not lose his balance in the water – he was an excellent swimmer but the doctors in Thailand after carrying out an autopsy told that his muscle had pulled and he had some weight tied up to his feet as part of the challenge and so could not make it back up. He was under water for about 6 minutes.
Saad has left a widow and 4 kids: Oldest one is 7 years old, then twins of age 5.5 and then the youngest who is only 1.5 years of age.

While this story is slowly making its way around, it seems that some serious counter efforts were made against Farhan Janjua of Aarpix, who first broke the story, WebHostingPad suddenly issued Aarpix a short notice disabling his website for “nature of content” [do have a look at Aarpix and see if you find any objectionable material] they then told Farhan to quickly move his data with immediate effect or else they will delete his content [4 years of hard work] – panicking the poor chap found a local friend willing to help him, but as soon as the DNS prorogation started ’someone’ called Farhan’s friend and asked questions about Aarpix and if they can possibly ‘have the owners cell phone number’ worrying for the safety of his friends Farhan resolved to buy a sever internationally and used their support services to help salvage the at-risk data. As I write this post at 2am Aarpix is slowly coming back online.

I strongly believe these scare tactics must be condemned, Unilever/Mindshare should be held accountable for this accident and must be forced to offer compensation to the grieved family with immediate effect. I do not mean merely doling out a paltry 1 lac rupees to the affected family but stress a far more expensive compensation to widow and the four kids who now have a life to live without the primary bread earner and literally no husband or father to look after them. May Allah give them the courage and patience to recover from this tragic incident

UPDATE: Just noticed that Dawn.com is also playing some mischief in this incident as well, the above Obituatry message was published in Sunday’s edition of Dawn, 23rd August, 2009. If you scroll to page 14 Karachi Metropolian section within the online archive hosted atepaper.dawn.com you do see this image in small print, but clicking on Saad Khan’s Obituary, and it comes with an error “The Article image is missing”, might this be an accidental mistake, possible but aint it too coincidental?

Pakistani reality show contestant dies during shoot

PTI 29 August 2009, 02:13pm IST

KARACHI: The tragic death of a young man on a Pakistani reality show shoot in Thailand has snowballed into a controversy with allegations surfacing
about inadequate safety measures for the contestants.

Saad Khan, 32, a father of four kids and who belonged to an affluent family was killed when he drowned during a challenge stunt on the first ever reality show in Pakistan, sponsored by a leading multinational company and produced by a big advertising agency.

The incident occurred in an island in Thailand this month but the story broke out when the body of Saad was flown back to Karachi for burial. Khan, one of the reality show contestants was killed when he accepted a challenge from the show host, well-known Pakistani model Amina Sheikh, sources from the show said.

The stunt required Khan to swim with weights on his ankles but drowned after he suffered a hamstring tear and lost control despite being an expert swimmer, the sources added.

It is being alleged that Khan died as he was not rescued in time and that the director/producers of the show delayed help as they prolonged the live shoot of the entire scene.

Another allegation is that Unilever, the company producing the show, did not have the contestants sign any "disclaimer clause" or contract.

Life is cheap for Asians, huh?

Had this happened in a western country, to a western citizen, there would have been a mass media frenzy and court cases flying in every direction.

Unfortunatly the Pakistani media as per this report is not reproting this news as newspapers and news channels are getting fat advertisment from the companies involved.

If Unilever signed a waiver, then the law won't be able to touch them.

It's tragic how Asian lives are so cheap. Unless we respect ourselves no one else will.

Pakistani drowns during reality TV contest
Monday, 31 Aug, 2009 | 12:56 AM PST |

ISLAMABAD: A contestant on a Pakistani reality TV show drowned while performing a challenge for the program, a spokeswoman for the show’s sponsor said Sunday.

Pakistani contestant Saad Khan, 32, was swimming across a lake while wearing a 15-pound backpack when he called out for help and then disappeared underwater, according to Fareshte Aslam, information officer for Unilever Pakistan, the show’s sponsor.

Horrified co-contestants and crew rushed to try to save him but could not find him in the murky waters of the lake in the Thai capital of Bangkok, where the show was being filmed, according to Aslam, who was recounting reports of those on the scene.

Divers later recovered the body of Khan, she said.

The death came during filming of the show’s 10th episode on Aug. 19, but it was not publicized until Khan’s body was returned home to Karachi.

Thai police were investigating to determine whether the death was an accident or caused by negligence, Bangkok’s Kom Chad Luek newspaper reported earlier this month. Police could not be contacted Sunday to say if the investigation had been completed.

Unilever Pakistan accepts no liability for Khan’s death, Aslam said, but added that the company is in discussions to provide for Khan’s wife and four children ‘out of rightness.’

A close friend of Khan’s, Babar Jumani, said by telephone that the family was not ready to talk to the media, and he declined to comment further.

Khan had already been eliminated in the as-yet-unnamed show’s previous rounds, but had returned for a special challenge to earn a spot in the finals.

Plans to air the reality show — intended as a promotional tie for Unilever’s Clear shampoo — were on hold. Aslam said Unilever Pakistan, a division of the multinational soap and cosmetics maker, was not involved in the production of the show, which was handled by a director and crew from the Indian entertainment capital of Mumbai.

Reality television shows often subject contenders to harsh physical challenges.

In May, a contestant of the Bulgarian version of ‘Survivor’ died of a heart attack while filming on an island in the Philippines. Noncho Vodenicharov, 53, collapsed after finishing an unspecified activity for the contest, Philippine police said. — AP.

Thanks Jana for disseminating this news, we all need to be aware of it. Rest in peace poor Saad Khan.

Yes, you guys are right, Asian lives are viewed as "cheap" by Whites. That is the truth everywhere. Do you know how many Asians are murdered, raped, occupational accidents caused by Whites? How about the other way around? We know the answer to these questions!

Standing up for our dignity, human rights and culture is the answer. But the real world is not so easy, these Whities flash a few paper dollars and the poor locals get all excited -- it gives these Whities a sense of "POWER".:disagree:

The solution as I've stated repeatedly is UNIFICATION (and settling our minor border issues). Doing so we will be STRONG. Them cowards don't dare pick on the strong.:agree:
