Chinese UN soldiers have a strict rule to remain neutral at all times and only defend them selves when under deliberate attack.

So it should expected that Chinese UN troops are not fighting for either side. Also a large portion of Chinese UN troops are combat engineers instrad of infantry as bridge building, mine sweeping and shelter building are common duties for UN troops.

As of now all we have is "abandoned their posts", more details are needed to make an accurate judgment. Important informations like the context of conflict(forces involved, intentions...), what was other UN forces doing at the time, what was the Chinese troops doing after abandoning their posts are missing from this article.

if i am not mistaken UN rules of engagement is not interfere in conflict unless fired upon or some thing like that.. Chinese troops may be were not given orders to engage... never under estimate any one ..Chinese soldier are professional with good training in different warfare.. if its not that strong than why from usa to japan, india australia and so are afraid of Chinese military achievement and expansion...

Oh please,this propaganda was busted long time ago.After the invasion of Iraq plenty of Chinese companies came to extract oil.If what you're saying would be true the US would have had a monopoly on Iraqi oil,which simply didn't happen.Don't get me started on the free billions wasted on rebuilding Iraq/Afghanistan....billions of aid money.

The worse job soldier must get is UN duty. I mean if crap happens and bullets start flying you always take refuge in the thought that your doing it for your country. However which one of us here would risk lives for a conflict that has nothing to do with you?

A example of lack of resolve is Dutch UN Peacekeepers in Bosnia who gave up without a fight leading to Bosniak masacres.

Back in the early 1990s I had relative (Capt) in the Pakistan Army mission to UN in Somalia. He told me every day was torture. They lost some men and the the feeling of anger amongst his men was at boiling point. He gave orders to shoot anything that moved. The feeling was kill 1000 of them but not risk one man. His unit was later involved with helping US Rangers get out of the trap they got into although he was not involved directly but was at stadium HQ.

Yes. You are right. It is a difficult task. UN Peacekeepers must always be preceive as NEUTRAL and should not involved themselves by siding with a feuding fraction.

Hence the order for Peacekeepers to withdraw from the precarious position out of safety reason is quite normal and wise. Professional soldiers must obey order even though the commander may be from a different country.

But according to many "experts", in particular Western, there was no limit of the potential of Southern Sudan when the country was first created back in 2011!

Apparently the not only "Christian" South (in reality most people believe in African animistic religions) and homogenous (there are over 30 different ethnic groups in South Sudan and 100's of different tribes) would be an instant success story as soon as they were "liberated" by the evil Muslim Arab and Muslim Nubian North!

In reality those different ethnic groups and tribes started killing each other immediately. As they did before. Whether it was disputes over territory, cattle, tribalism, religion or political power.

Meanwhile such conflicts in Northern Sudan in the past 100 years can be counted on 1 hand.

The reality is that the realities of the North/South divide and the nature of the conflict (s) have been extremely overly simplified in the Western media. That conflict (s) date back before Sudan even became a state and before Al-Bashir was born. Nor were the Southerners or Darfurians (who are Muslims by the way) angels in any shape or form.

Anyway Sudan (as in the North) has much potential and is a country, even under the rule of an unfavorable and sanctioned regime, in growth. Sudan is for instance the 63th largest economy. Doing better than the vast, vast majority of all African countries. Could be much worse. I am quite sure that once the regime is gone and Sudan opens up there will be even greater growth. Sudan is a very rich country in terms of resources.

Our Sudanese brothers and sisters are great people. Love Sudanese Arabic too as it is very close to Hijazi Arabic. It is one of the more conservative Arabic dialects. Love their humor, light-hearted spirits and genorosity. Shame that no Sudanese user is present here. Would love to hear his/her opinions.
