Uganda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with India for the maintenance and technical support of the Sukhoi SU-MK30 fighter jets Uganda purchased from Russia more than a decade ago.

The maintenance will be done by Indian state-owned aerospace and defence company, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The Indian company has a manufacturing license from Russia to build the fighter aircraft.

The MoU was signed on March 4 at the Indian High Commission in Kampala. Lt. Gen. Charles Lutaaya, Commander of Air Force in the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), signed on behalf of Uganda.

The Indian High Commission on its Twitter account said the deal was the first major defence agreement with Uganda following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unveiling of ’10 Principles of India-Africa Engagement’ in the Ugandan Parliament on July 25, 2018.

I would expect so considering the experience they have in the type. Especially since the OEM is not really going to be able to keep its commitments for a while

.
They have about five SU-30.
Hope they don't start falling down from sky like stoness after HAL Maintenance, then they won't have left any SU-30 to overhaul.

I thought that Uganda operates MKKs? Aren’t those designed and produced by a completely different form than MKI/SM? I heard there are major structural differences too.

There are no structural differences.

The main difference is Indian MKI use Israeli Avionics.

Great choice! Uganda SU-30 will be able to dodge and run just as fast as the Indian SU-30MKI against PAF after Indian maintenance. Maybe add another extra booster for upgrade too.

They can also operate under the cover of the clouds to evade enemy radars. This was the unique upgrade feature that clinched the deal for India.

Uganda better start looking for new suppliers considering India's track record when it comes to aircraft...

Wait, Uganda bought the Su-30s from Russia but wants them maintained by India? Did they not sign a servicing agreement with Russia with the original purchase?

Perhaps temporarily evading attention from the Western countries. This seems more like an interim commercial arrangement. Though just curious as to why Uganda would even bother about CAATSA. It's not like they are a major US trade partner.
